My landlord raised my rent $340. I asked why. "Market rate adjustment." I googled my landlord. He owns 34 properties. Manages them through 3 LLCs. Lives in a $1.3 million house. Has never fixed my heating properly. My rent increase is his mortgage payment on preperty number 35. I am not a tenant. I am a revenue stream who gets to sleep here.

Now, if you want to discuss the criteria people should meet to hold office, we could definitely get into that. Like having served in the military and having been a net contributor for 10yrs.

Let's make this easy. If there is a single viable option outside the Binary of Republican and Democrat. Let's hear it.

@Quinnqade @paleochristcon If the guy leaving office after two terms sees it as a punishment, then he wasn't the right guy for the job. Politics shouldn't be a stepping stone.

@RyanThomasTalks @paleochristcon If someone is truly serving their constituents, you shouldn't punish them for it. Want to see the actual effect of term limits? Have the people who become President gotten better or worse since they were instituted? How much more beholden have they been to their donors?

@Quinnqade @paleochristcon Without them, you have politicians who are so out of touch with the life of the average citizen that they have no idea what their constituents are going through. Politics was never meant to be a career. It was meant to be a couple years of service.

@RyanThomasTalks @paleochristcon Term limits do not work. As a matter of fact, you make the problem worse. You make politicians more beholden to donors to jump offices and create quid pro quo jobs after political exit. You disincentivize them from serving the people, since, good or ill, they have to leave.

@RyanThomasTalks @paleochristcon The problem is that they are beholden to their big money donors. You just need to make them beholden to the people. That's what this does. Always align your ideology/goals with the framework of probability/reality.

@Quinnqade @paleochristcon My problem with money in politics is that if they paid to get you in, you owe them. And that means you're not acting in the best interest of your constituents.

@RyanThomasTalks @paleochristcon I don't mind money getting you in. Besides, you can't ungame that system completely. Just because you don't get money, you can have connections, get hosted on media more, etc. There are many indirect monetary influences. Ask yourself what the problem with money in politics is.

I like that to a degree, but I still think that having corporate and PAC money behind the challenger needs to be abolished. And I would tack term limits into that framework as well, and a guarantee that after their term they can't profit from any corporation that funded them, or committee they served on.

If you are elected out of any office twice you can't hold that office again. If you are voted out of any office thrice your political career is over, pension gone
