Thornaby FC are set for an exciting end to the season after guaranteeing a play-off spot in Ebac Northern League Division Two. A 4-0 win over Washington in front of a crowd of almost 300 at Teesdale Park was enough to secure a top five place. Now all eyes will be on Thornaby’s result at Boldon in this Saturday’s final game of the regular season when it will be determined whether they swap places with Chester-le-Street United in fourth or stay fifth. Thornaby could play second-placed Yarm & Eaglescliffe or third-placed Jarrow in the play-off semi-finals at the end of this month. None of the four play-off teams know for certain what position they will finish before the final round of fixtures. Andy Campbell, director of football at Thornaby, said: “They are all good teams in the play-offs and we will be looking forward to the fireworks after this week’s trip to Boldon. “There’s no real pressure on us having climbed into the top six late on like we have and it will be tough, but it’s exciting and we want to go all the way.” Thornaby, who have edged out Esh Winning and Ryton & Crawcrook in the battle for a play-off spot in the final weeks, started with clear intent against Washington and were in front inside 22 minutes. Jack Proctor headed Charlie Hindson’s corner into the net to put the Blues on their way. A minute before half-time it was two when Jack Robertson turned Luca Sartini’s cross into the roof of the net. Thornaby’s confidence grew and with 18 minutes remaining Ryan Wright ensured there was to be no late Washington fightback by finishing well following some excellent Luke Richards play. Proctor completed the win and the top five place with three minutes left after he was played in by an outstanding pass from captain Hindson. #OneCLUB #OneCommunity #Thornaby

Ryan Wright’s 17th goal of the season delivered Thornaby FC an important three points in the battle for a play-off spot in Ebac Northern League Division Two. With the score 1-1 going into the final ten minutes at Teesdale Park on Saturday, Wright struck the winning goal against fellow promotion hopefuls Ryton & Crawcrook Albion. That victory has lifted the Blues to level on points with fifth-placed Esh Winning, occupants of the final play-off spot, and a point within Chester-le-Street United sitting fourth. And with only four matches remaining, Thornaby know they need to keep up the heat with back-to-back away dates at Chester-le-Street Town and Grangetown on the horizon over the next two weekends. Thornaby had the best chance in the first half against Ryton when Jack Robertson lobbed an effort over goalkeeper Brogan Colquhoun after cleverly beating three players. Bobby Coltman’s side did claim the lead just after half-time when Dom Joynes scored a fine header at the back post. But Ryton, who are now three points behind Thornaby, levelled two minutes later when Glenn Caygill scored from close range. Just when it seemed the play-off place tussle would end up all square, Wright finished brilliantly when he was faced with just Colquhoun to beat in the 81st minute. After the next two away fixtures, Thornaby finish the regular season by heading to Boldon CA on April 19 after the final home date of the campaign against Washington on April 12.

Match Report 🔵⚽️ Please read all about our last game against @BTFCOfficial #OneCLUB #OneCommunity #Thornaby 📸 @krphotographics Thornaby FC are looking to climb back into the Ebac Northern League Division Two play-off places on Wednesday night after sealing a return to winning ways. The sixth-placed Blues delivered a Valentine’s Day three points by defeating Bedlington Terriers 3-1 at Teesdale Park. That victory has put them to within a point of Chester-le-Street United and Esh Winning sitting immediately above them ahead of the midweek matches. Thornaby are looking to make it five home wins in a row against Sunderland West End on Wednesday, while Esh Winning face seventh-placed Ryton & Crawcrook Albion. Bobby Coltman’s side never looked back on Friday after Ryan Wright had fired in the opening goal from the penalty spot in the 29th minute. Even though Bedlington pulled one back soon after Shaun Ryder had struck the sweetest of second goals for Thornaby, the Teessiders remained in command. And Max Booth increased the advantage to two goals again when he finished well following an excellent pass from captain Charlie Hindson. The win was the perfect tonic after a couple of frustrating defeats and sets up the visit of West End nicely in midweek.
