@Dr_Perreault Not quite the same, but I was lowest paid asst prof despite best teacher ratings, 2nd most grant funding, and most publications. Ultimately, I decided I was worth more than the job and cut all extraneous activities and spent that time consulting. 3 mo consulting > 9 mo salary.

It's really discouraging when you realize you make $7,000/year less than someone in your dept who just got tenure and $18,000/year less than the next closest Assoc Prof. I'm the lowest paid Assoc Prof in my department.

@drsmillie @ashleylwatts hmmm, would be curious to read or hear on the expansion of this. With raw data & statistics, a lot of things can quickly become the Easter Bunny...

@fuckyouiquit Isn't this just graduate school? Pay me to do work in my lab. When you're done, you might get a job (but probably not).

@ReligionsGeek @profsamperry @PippaNorriss @PewReligion I don't know this field at all, but my first inclination was that the cause is from GDP to religion, not the other way around. People want to find meaning in life and it seems religion offers a powerful avenue for finding meaning, especially when economic circumstances are poor.

@profsamperry It's definitely that GDP decreases religiosity. @PippaNorriss's work on this is really top notch. The Pew Forum (@PewReligion ) has shown these links too. Norris showed religion declines with existential security in 4 ways. 1) Country's GDP up, religiosity down 2)...

@R__INDEX I agree re longitudal data. There is a causal inference being drawn here that might well be the reverse. In economically poorer environments, people might be more inclined to turn to religion to find meaning for their circumstances.

@Ivuoma Many companies have policies prohibiting outside work. Both universities I worked at limited faculty to 8 hours per week for external work. Personally, I think these policies are BS and should be illegal. My current employer is quite clear it does not have such a policy.

I saw this on IG. It’s a shame someone would do this to her but I hope this gives her space for more projects and partnerships.
