A significant falsehood: I was born and raised there. I experienced deep discrimination throughout my youth. When I went to the registry office to change my last name from Bektesoski to Bekteshi, the clerk told me that if I wanted the last name Bekteshi, I should go to Albania. I was only 12 years old, and I was shocked. When I tried to enroll in high school, the regime did not allow us to receive an education in our native language. My life turned into a drama and ultimately a tragicomedy. I was forced to leave and was never able to develop a love for the country; instead, I felt hatred due to the ongoing discrimination against ethnic Albanians by the Macedonian regimes, coupled with the actions of Albanian collaborators.

Genau heute vor 26 Jahren, am 24. März 1999, konnte die #NATO mit ihrer Operation Allied Force den Massakern gegen die albanische Zivilbevölkerung im #Kosovo ein Ende setzen und damit schliesslich nach #Srebrenica einen weiteren #Genozid und Schlimmeres verhindern. Es war die einzige Reaktion, die möglich und für Tyrannen wie Milosevic verständlich war.
Der Einmarsch der NATO-Truppen, wie auf dem Bild zu sehen, war für die Bevölkerung ein Friedens-Segen, den man sich kaum mehr vorstellen konnte. Und dennoch wurde er Realität.
