New #Isles Head Coach Peter DeBoer has been to the Conference Final in 6 of his last 8 seasons behind the bench, all of which were his last 6 Stanley Cup Playoffs appearances. He's been to the Stanley Cup Final twice, losing in 6 games back in 2012 and 2016.

And the #Isles, who had a real bad week at a real bad time, capped by a brutal night in Raleigh: -- The 3 losses earlier in the week had spots of no-show play but not for a full 60. Last night, #Isles let Carolina do what they do almost immediately. Such a big moment and you can't get a clinched team off their game? Red flag. -- #Isles made the shot attempt numbers look bearable by the end, but they were at 13 attempts midway through the 3rd. Chances were 30-5 CAR (from @csahockey) after 2 periods. Would never have guessed this game meant more to the #Isles. -- I get the "this is who they were supposed to be" argument. They overachieved on the backs of Schaefer and Sorokin, with a dash of Horvat/Heineman/couple others. Now, they're being exposed defensively and Sorokin looks tired. But to blow it, especially when the teams chasing you were begging you to take it, is unacceptable, no matter what the expectations were. -- With the coaching options available right now I'd think HCPR is not long for this job if they miss. He's got two years left, so the question is also whether ownership feels like eating $6m or so to then pay one of the Cup-winning coaches out there (Cassidy/Laviolette/DeBoer) another $4-5m per. That's not a slam dunk. -- GMMD will have to do far more subtracting than adding this offseason, which is a tough job to do. Palat, 1-2 defensemen, followed by filling gaps on D/middle-six wing/backup goalie -- a lot on the to-do list. The promise of this season means a quiet offseason and "we'll see" likely won't cut it with ownership, especially if there's some missed playoff revenue in the rearview. -- AND YET... these next four idle days will be torture but everyone seems not to want this Metro 3 spot. #Isles won't be dead by the time they host TOR on Thurs, but a lot could change by then.

The Soucy trade sucked but at least I can see the vision. Same with Schenn. I genuinely have no idea what the Palat trade accomplished or what the goal of that was. You make that trade if you’re the Canucks starting a rebuild. Not a team trying to win in the next few years.

The #Isles had been resilient for most of the season, but right now, that character trait, identity has disappeared when it matters the most and that very well could/math says will cost them a playoff spot.
