Ok people, enough of Farago. Here's why I hate him. Eight years ago I could travel in Europe passport free, I could live in any country and work in any country and stay as long as I liked. Now I cannot. I can stay only three months in all of Europe. He effectively burned my passport. For that I will never forgive him.

@EthanRockStory Tricky philosophical point: as there is no sunlight down there for it to reflect, is the mantle really green? In fact, at several hundred degrees C it must glow dull red.

So, for all you #geology geeks out there (or the parents of young geology geeks)... seriously, we gotta stop coloring the mantle red in all the textbooks. Cuz it ain't red. It's GREEN!

My son is off to live in New Zealand.

The pay of university staff has fallen 26% in real terms in recent years.
Now they face a 35% cut in their guaranteed pension too.
