BREAKING: House Democrats STUN Republicans by unveiling a secret plan that they have been putting together since January to break through the GOP's debt ceiling obstructionism.
Republicans have been threatening a government default that would crash the world economy unless President Biden brutally slashes funding and guts veterans healthcare benefits.
Rather than cave to these draconian demands, Democrats' newly unveiled plan is designed to force a vote on the debt limit hike despite GOP objections through something called a "discharge petition," a special move that would force floor legislation backed by a majority of House members.
The petition would require at least five Republicans signing on, a much lower threshold than the Democrats currently face to raise the ceiling in the GOP-controlled House.
Democrats quietly introduced the legislative seed of this maneuver back in January inside an obscure bill called “The Breaking the Gridlock Act.” They have now introduced a "special rule" that enables the bill to be brought to the floor should the discharge petition succeed.
While Republicans are playing chicken with the global economy, Democrats are going to bat for the American people once again.
Retweet if you support the Democrats' bold plan!

@eduardmatito A set of statistical tricks will never displace fundamental physics. ML will always be one step behind the best QM methods able to be scaled to a statistically meaningful chemical space.

@ChemBark *resonance structures / forms that contribute to the pauling-wheland resonance hybrid structure
English

@ChemBark The problem is that we focus way too much on reactions in org chem before properly teaching electronic structure theory. Everyone is looking for a reaction, when these are two Pauling-Wheland Resonance Hybrids. (1)
English

@ChemBark ... because bonds are constructs - they do not exist. Both structures can be considered representations that contribute to the observable properties of the molecules, namely, its 3D structure and electron density. End rant.
English

@ChemBark The relative weighting of these structures should be assessed with valence-bond theory, which will provide numeric weights. For good reason a proper resonance arrow does not allow one to indicate which structure is 'favored' because neither structure exists (2)

Allow error into your life and experience the joy of surprise psyche.co/ideas/allow-er… A fascinating and inspiring Psyche Idea by @NeuroLeyla for @psyche_the_mag -- your brain is so much more than an error-minimisation machine, "gamble sometimes ... and mess with the algorithm!"

@ChemBark @AmerChemSociety I broke my last ACS periodic table mug years ago. Was the only reason I stayed a member but only got up to Lithium before realizing it wasn’t worth it!
English

I am no longer a member of the @AmerChemSociety because I now believe this organization does more harm than good to our field. Its iniquitous publishing model that drives librarians and faculty at smaller institutions mad, its absurdly unjustified executive compensation...

@andrewwhite01 The privilège to not only tweet during a meeting, but to complain about ssid meeting publicly without fear of losing your job… I think you have it pretty good man.

@Chemjobber Those ‘stereo bonds’ aren’t wedged. What am I looking at here? Besides for the weird circled sp2 carbon, its just bad styling.
