In celebration of Freedom Day 2026, Ms Schroeder, Charge d’Affaires a.i. delivered welcome remarks expressing South Africa’s commitment to building an inclusive, dynamic and forward-looking society, working with international partners to build a peaceful and prosperous future.

The co-host, Mr TAMATSUKA Genichi, Chairman of JRLO, shared the leagues' vision in advancing international partnerships within rugby. #SAinJapan #Sportsdiplomacy @DIRCO_ZA

In attendance were Ms. ERI Arfiya, Mr. ONISHI Yohei, Parliamentary Vice-Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Mr NAKAMURA Hiroyuki, State Minister of MEXT; they expressed appreciation for the significant contribution of South African players and coaches to the Japanese rugby league.

On 25 March, the Embassy in collaboration with Japan Rugby League One (JRLO) hosted an event with South African Rugby players based in Japan. Ms Schroeder, Charge d'Affaires expressed the importance of rugby in strengthening the bonds of friendship between South Africa and Japan.

WOSA represents the collective interests of South African wine producers internationally, and positioning South Africa as a premium, diverse and competitive wine-producing country, with a proud wine-making heritage. #SAinJapan

On 2 February 2026, the Embassy co- hosted the rebranding of Wines of South Africa (WOSA) event. In her remarks, Ms Annelize Schroeder, Charge d’Affaires a.i remarked that WOSA has always been at the forefront of the promotion of South African wines abroad, since its inception.

CAJUTTA" Jackson-fruit juice will be offered free of charge to all the customers ordering a meal on the days. Café Le Pommier will also elaborate to offer the original menu by using the South African excellent grapefruit on the event day.

The South African Embassy in Japan, in collaboration with the Café Restaurant called Café Le Pommier, will host the South African citrus promotional event, specifically highlighting a unique, competitive quality of South Africa Jackson-fruit.  #SAinJapan

Deputy Minister Holomisa also met with his counterpart, Mr Taro Honda, State Minister of Defence in Japan for bilateral discussions on establishing possible areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Hon. Bantu Holomisa attended the DSEI exhibition in Chiba, Japan from 21-23 May 2025. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen bilateral relations between South Africa and Japan in the areas of defence and security. #SAinJapan

Charge d'Affaires Ms Annelize Schroeder, remarked on South Africa's rich cultural heritage and tourism. The participants had an opportunity to experience proudly South African products such as wines and cuisine; and get information on tourism including Safari destinations.
