A brutal assault against Christians in Syria is unfolding once again. In the town of Al-Suqaylabiyah (Hama countryside), tensions erupted moments ago after two unknown individuals entered Al-Mashwar Street and harassed several young women, according to local sources. The situation escalated when local youths intervened, leading to a physical altercation. One of the assailants then pulled out a grenade, threatened those present, and fled. The two individuals later returned with security patrols and pointed out several young men from the town, who were subsequently arrested by General Security forces. Those detained reportedly include: - Marcel Jamar - Mark Jamar - Gibran Farouh - Jack Dweib Residents of Al-Suqaylabiyah stress that such provocations in this Christian town have become almost daily occurrences, amid a clear absence of deterrent measures, fueling growing anger and tension among citizens. @RepScottPerry @MOSSADil @BrianMastFL

🚨 Christians in Syria’s Hama region are under attack — their shops looted, their churches desecrated, their lives threatened — while the so-called “government” escorts the mobs. This is not chaos, it is state-sponsored persecution. I am calling on HRVP @kajakallas to convene an urgent Foreign Affairs Council. Europe cannot stay silent while our Christian brothers and sisters face extinction in the Middle East.

Important high-level meeting in Berlin with Minister of State Serap Güler at the Foreign Ministry. Syria and the Arameans were front and center in a dynamic exchange with a highly understanding government representative responsible for the Syria file; in my view, Europe could use more such caring and inspiring state officials. On behalf of @wca_ngo, my longstanding colleague and friend Daniyel Demir, Chairman of the Bundesverband der Aramäer in Deutschland, and I held a substantive discussion on Germany’s Syria policy. One of our key messages was the need for Germany’s support to help secure an inclusive and stable future for Syria - one in which Aramaic, Syria’s former national language, and the Arameans, the country’s oldest continuously living indigenous people, are equally cherished, recognized, and supported.
