The AI industry's marketing pitch has essentially been that they're building Satan, and that has been incredibly profitable. Robotics companies will start adopting this dark aesthetic downstream of that successful strategy. Which security droid would you rather have out on patrol? A box with legs? Or a nightmare hell beast that stepped out of an 80s slasher flick? Which has more deterrence value? Which is more likely to grab eyeballs in the attention economy, and thus establish a sales funnel?
