Red and blue button pushers: who's smarter? In a mostly-subscriber sample who took a brief verbal IQ test, the answer is... Blue pushers! If the whole population has an IQ of 100 with an SD of 15, their mean IQ would be 101.9, versus 97.0 for reds.

I don't think either have been SCIENTIFICALLY "proven". But the circumstantial evidence in favor of a genetic explanation for East African dominance in marathon running is overwhelming. We still have a poor understanding of how specific genetic variants influence running talent. Until we know, we can't really say it's been scientifically proven.

@lukas_ohl What’s just as annoying is how they BOTH first attempt to gaslight him into bringing embarrassed. As in, that it’s a dumb question that doesn’t make sense. Then, as you say, it becomes a game of stubbornness as to who will say ‘Islam’ first.

Exceeded the target. Haven't looked at scores yet, but will note that reds were *much* less accurate when it came to identifying the threshold to save everyone. For red, it's 100%. For blue, it's 50%+1. Since this is obvious, I think the reds might just be partisan-brained.

I've received 166 wordsum scores plus blue/red button press results, and I'm so tempted to look, but I have to wait until I hit my target sample size of 2,350. Which side's button pushers will end up being more intelligent?

@ShabanaMahmood Antisemitism is literally part of the Islamic faith though. Not just one random outdated line, it’s a core part of it and practiced by the prophet himself. That’s problem.

Undeciphered Easter Island Script Has a problem the mainstream wants to ignore Carefully tucked away in a study not that long ago; a wrench was thrown into the narrative of colonial influence. Prior dating had secured the wood firmly post European contact, but there was a fatal flaw no one caught. The wood hadn't been calibrated for Rapa Nui's southern hemisphere climate, after this was done one Rongorongo wooden tablet broke the lock, returning a 15th century date. 200 years before the west arrived on its shores. This timeline rupture can only mean one thing.

My letter to the President of the Oxford Union.👇 I see Carl Benjamin ⁦@Sargon_of_Akkad⁩ was also stood down from speaking at this debate on British identity. If these are our future leaders of the country, then we are in trouble. 😬

@Miss_Snuffy @Sargon_of_Akkad Good letter. Also my understanding is that Carl Benjamin was only notified at 11pm the day before the event. Meaning he only knew the morning of the event. I can’t help but wonder if that was done maliciously, to maximise inconvenience and cost.

@cremieuxrecueil Equal but different distributions. I predict the blue will be the midwits and the red will be both dumber and smarter. Not quite bimodal but perhaps just a wider distribution.

The neuron on the left came from a higher IQ brain. The neuron on the right came from a lower IQ brain. Both are layer 2/3 pyramidal cells from the temporal cortex, removed from 46 living patients during epilepsy and tumor surgery at VU Amsterdam. Each patient took a full IQ test before going under. This is the most direct evidence ever produced that intelligence lives at the level of the individual cell. Most neuroscience uses mouse brains, post-mortem tissue, or fMRI of intact subjects. Goriounova's team got rare access to small undamaged samples of temporal cortex that surgeons had to remove to reach the diseased tissue underneath. The cells were still alive when they hit the lab. The team patched each one, recorded electrical signals, then digitally reconstructed the full dendritic tree. Total dendritic length correlated with IQ at R² = 0.26 across 72 neurons from 25 subjects. Number of branch points correlated at R² = 0.22. Real effect sizes for a single-cell measurement predicting a whole-person behavioral score. The size advantage is the easy half. Bigger dendrites collect more synaptic inputs. That part is intuitive. The non-obvious part is that bigger dendrites also produce faster action potentials. The geometry forces it. A larger dendritic load changes how the cell integrates incoming signals, which sharpens the AP onset at the soma. Goriounova showed it in silico first, then confirmed it in the actual cells. High IQ neurons fired faster initial spikes and sustained those fast rise speeds during high-frequency repeated firing. Low IQ neurons fatigued and slowed down. The membrane potential graphs at the bottom of the chart are showing exactly that. Steeper slope, higher peak, on the left. A 2022 follow-up by the same lab localized the strongest effect to the left middle temporal gyrus and tied it specifically to verbal IQ. A 2023 Nature Communications paper extended this with a genetic finding. The genes most associated with cognitive ability, and the genes located in Human Accelerated Regions, the parts of the genome that evolved fastest since we split from chimpanzees, are preferentially expressed in exactly these layer 2/3 pyramidal cells. Three compounding advantages at the single cell level. More inputs. Faster firing. No fatigue under load. Multiplied by 16 billion cortical neurons. The IQ test is measuring how far your dendrites reach.

Checking in on the status of Wokeism, and it turns out Leftist academics are unironically saying that society needs to intentionally “marginalize men” even more to supposedly solve the birth rate. History shows us that what’s normalized in academia becomes publicly mainstream within a generation, and there is no sign the ship is turning or even slowing down.

@Miss_Snuffy The English are an ethnicity & therefore are ‘ethnic people too’. Arguably your implication that they are not, is itself racism. That aside, you grew up in Canada, born to non-British, not European parents, it’s fair to say that you might not be British, or as British as some.

@Philip_Goff It’s a fun analogy but not truly analogous. That brother will have seen hundreds of other people with fathers. We don’t have ANY other universes to look at and say ‘well they all have a god’. So it’s not a good counter to Ricky’s point, no matter its own flaws (deism etc)

nature.com/articles/s4158… The reported basal N mtDNA in the ~7,000 BP African Takarkori samples is potentially puzzling, because it appears phylogenetically upstream of R, which is already present in the oldest Europeans (~45,000 BP Ust’-Ishim and Ranis). It implies that a very ancient basal N lineage persisted until the Holocene in North Africa, while more derived R lineages had already existed tens of thousands of years earlier. This is more consistent with R being the root of modern mtDNA with N downstream of R, as in the out of East Asia tree.
