@sanchezteacher @missochoa12 @AnneOBannon2 @joboaler I agree that number talks give students the opportunity to see others' point of view and build on it. Through the number talk, students discuss how they see the problem and their strategy for solving it. This can bring to light a strategy that their peers had not realized.

@lettyma85161791 @AnneOBannon2 @joboaler I completely agree that the way students perceive their abilities is crucial to their learning. There are many ways that students can be strong in math without instant recall. The strongest students that are able to solve the most difficult problems may struggle with math facts

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler The memorization of math facts is unnecessary and damaging because students believe that fast recall of math facts is what is means to be a strong math student. This thinking hurts them through out life thinking that recalling math facts is the only way to be “smart”

@missochoa12 @AnneOBannon2 @joboaler I agree that building number sense in our students is one of the most critical yet overlooked aspects in teaching math. Number talks and the use of manipulatives are very helpful for most students because they help them think outside the box.

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler We can encourage students to use numbers flexibly by helping them build a sense of numbers. Building number sense allows the students to break numbers apart and make problems easier to solve. The students can use manipulatives and participate in "Number Talks" to think flexibly.

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Memorization of math facts is unnecessary and damaging because it changes the way students perceive math and does not influence how well they are able to grasp concepts. This only hurts students because they feel they will not do well because they have not memorized their facts.

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Students benefit from number talks because they are an interactive and engaging way to get students to discuss their points of view. Number talks involve the current learning goals with different methods. Students can more fully understand the concept and see how it is applied.

@AnneOBannon2 @joboaler Math anxiety develops because the way one person understands the math problem may be different from the way it was taught to them. Some teachers require a step by step process that may not work for some students. Yet these students need to show their work in order to get credit

I completely agree with you...we are here to teach, inspire, and motivate our students. I think technology is the key to all knowledge in today's world; and we learn to use it so we can pay that knowledge forward. @Tech_Buddha #CSUBTED

I agree that teachers can and should use their own resources to promote student use of technology. One way is by creating class accounts on certain websites and having students use them for class. @Tech_Buddha #CSUBTED

One way that educators can promote children producing technology is by making their own apps or ideas that can benefit their lives and others with the same scenario . Overall, getting them comfortable with the concept of technology.#CSUBTED #CSUBEDTE4200

A4) There are many ways to get students to produce technology...from using powerpoint to create presentations; to having them type and print small paragraphs at the elementary level; to using flipgrid to engage them with each other. @Tech_Buddha #CSUBTED

That sounds like a very interesting project! Was it related to social services, or child development? It's hard to see what people are capable of exposing their children to. @Tech_Buddha #CSUBTED #csubedte4200

@tom_karnes A3: My favorite project in all of my school years was investigating adverse childhood experiences and their impact on children. This happened during my first year of college and I used technology to perform research. Technology was very helpful! @teachsci8 #CSUBTED #csubedte4200

A3)Technology allows communication and collaboration to happen on a global scale. You no longer need to be in physical contact to collaborate. Collaboration can take place through many platforms, like twitter! @Tech_Buddha #CSUBTED #csubedte4200

A2)My favorite project was in chemistry class; we used microscopes to identify different cells. It turned knowledge into a hands on approach. Microscopes we used were limited, I'm sure there are better ones available now that are much clearer.@Tech_Buddha,#CSUBTED,#csubedte4200
