Retrospectively, what idiot in the military analysis report including the OP would say "grain of salt."
It most certainly is a victory, in that, the global economy is more important than our drop of oil price.
1. Reopening the Strait lies in preventing a cascading worldwide economic collapse. 1b. When the Straight closes, oil prices doesn't just rise, it shocks the global economic system. (Study WWII)
2. President Trump effectively (call it victory or not) neutralized a massive trigger that could have pushed Europe, Asia, and North America into a synchronized economic downturn.
3. Our allies, ie Europe and Asia, Japan, South Korea, and various European nations are highly dependent on Persian Gulf oil-- supply chains, and consumer spending would grind to a halt.
Now Iran gets rewarded. $25 billion of unfreezed assets and more... Win-win (victory or not).
