“FIFA can’t solve geopolitical conflicts, but we are committed to using the power of football and the FIFA World Cup to build bridges and promote peace — as our thoughts are with those who are suffering as a consequence of the ongoing wars.”
FIFA is fond of saying that it can’t resolve conflicts, but fails to acknowledge that it is prohibited from promoting, contributing to, or supporting them.
Which it is currently doing.
FIFA’s Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee concluded that “the final legal status of the West Bank remains an unresolved and highly complex matter,” despite the International Court of Justice ruling that Israel’s occupation of the West Bank is unlawful under international law, its settlement regime violates the Fourth Geneva Convention, and its laws and policies constitute racial segregation in breach of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination — the very prohibition FIFA’s own statutes require it to uphold.
FIFA also formally partnered with Trump’s Board of Peace, the mechanism created to implement a Gaza reconstruction plan that is widely condemned as a blueprint for the forced displacement of Palestinians. Forcible transfer of a civilian population is a war crime under Articles 45 and 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, and a crime against humanity under the Rome Statute.
That same partner — the Trump administration — launched military strikes on Iran in violation of the UN Charter’s prohibition on the use of force. Hundreds of civilians have been killed, including children.
Many of whom, no doubt, played football.
I doubt FIFA’s thoughts will be much comfort.
FIFA’s own statutes require it to remain free of government interference and to uphold human rights. Infantino wearing a Trump campaign hat at the Board of Peace’s inaugural meeting, while gifting its architect a FIFA Peace Prize, is not neutrality.
It is institutional endorsement of conduct that international law unambiguously prohibits.
FIFA says it can’t solve geopolitical conflicts.
That is correct.
But it is actively promoting them, contributing to them, and lending them its institutional legitimacy.
That is not bridge-building.
It’s blowing them up.

Following complaints from the Palestine FA, FIFA fail to ban Israel, but instead impose half baked punishments such as a fine and the requirement to display a banner saying, 'football unites.'
An absolute disgrace from the corrupt FIFA

FIFA is literally reshaping the narrative around the West Bank, calling it “complex” and “disputed” to slowly normalise what might come next: more annexation of Palestinian land.
No wonder the presidents of FIFA and UEFA have been accused for complicity in war crimes…
Kat@KatVilarev
In breach of its of Statutes, FIFA declines to remove Israeli settlement clubs from it's structures saying that it is a very difficult matter of public international law to decide whom does a territory of the West Bank belong to: Palestine or Israel.

@CraigMokhiber It beggars belief that UEFAs grotesquely offensive masquerade as a benevolent body for tax purposes continues to be upheld.....

In a scandalous development today, Swiss lawmakers in the canton of Vaud rejected a resolution that would have held UEFA accountable for its complicity in Israeli regime crimes. In a vote of 53-74, the canton allowed tax credits to UEFA to continue, despite the organization’s ongoing association with the regime’s crimes. While this is devastating for the victims and survivors of Israel’s crimes, it is also a blow to the reputation of European football, and another stain on Switzerland’s international reputation. In the past two years, Switzerland, which is the depositary of the Geneva Conventions, and host of the UN human rights office, and claims a history of neutrality, has suffered a number of serious blows to its reputation due to its ongoing relationship with the Israeli regime and its repression of human rights defenders speaking out against the regime’s crimes. The government notoriously refused to convene the meeting of parties to the Geneva Conventions requested by the UN General Assembly in 2024 to hold Israel accountable, it arrested without cause the prominent journalist and human rights defender Ali Abunimah in an effort to silence him, it cracked down on peaceful student protestors for speaking out against the genocide, and it has continued trade and security relations with the regime, despite ICJ findings that such activities by third states should end. Today’s vote adds to the catalogue of recent failures by Switzerland to uphold international law. #Shame

The Swiss canton of Vaud, which hosts the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), and which grants millions of dollars in tax credits to UEFA despite UEFA’s complicity in Israeli apartheid and genocide, it’s detention and murder of Palestinian footballers, it’s destruction of their sports facilities, and its fielding of teams in illegal settlements, is voting today on whether to remove UEFA’s tax exemption on these grounds. In the face of enormous public support to end the complicity, Israel proxy groups have mobilized massive pressure to prevent the move. Swiss lawmakers must not miss this opportunity to end Swiss complicity in Israeli crimes. UEFA rules do not allow play on a muddy pitch. They must not allow it on a bloody pitch either. #GameOverIsrael

A message to the presidents of the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, and UEFA..
Following the Palestinian sports delegation’s hearing at the Italian Parliament in Rome, the Chair of the Human Rights Committee sent a formal letter to the IOC, FIFA, UEFA, and the IPC urging them to address the violations of the Olympic Charter, FIFA statutes, and the fundamental rights of Palestinian athletes raised during the session.
We appreciate this important step and the support shown in upholding the principles of justice, equality, and accountability in international sport. Here is the full text of the letter:
Hon. Laura Boldrini
Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Rights
To Mrs. Kirsty Coventry, President, IOC
To Mr. Gianni Infantino, President, FIFA
To Mr. Aleksander Čeferin, President, UEFA
Dear Mrs. Coventry, Mr. Infantino, and Mr. Čeferin,
On Thursday, 12 February 2026, the Standing Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies
on Human Rights, which I chair, held a hearing with Jibril Rajoub, President of the
Palestinian National Olympic Committee, an organization officially recognized by the International
Olympic Committee since 1993.
President Rajoub was accompanied by Valerie Tarazi, swimmer and member of the Palestinian
National Olympic Team; Dima Said, spokesperson for the Palestinian Football
Association and former captain of the national team; and Ihab Abu Jazar, head coach of
the Palestinian men’s national football team.
During the hearing, the report “The Impact of Israeli Aggression on the Palestinian Sports
Sector” (attached to this letter) was presented. The report documents in detail the total
denial of the right to sport for Palestinians. It shows that, after more than two years of
Israeli bombardment in Gaza and following the violence carried out by settlers and the
IDF in the West Bank, 684 athletes belonging to 34 Palestinian sports federations and
institutions have been killed – and thousands more injured. Stadiums and sports infrastructures
of every discipline have been irreparably damaged or destroyed, resulting in
losses amounting to millions of dollars, and reconstruction will require many years.
During the hearing, it was also mentioned that at least nine football clubs participating
in the Israeli league – supported by FIFA and UEFA – are based in Israeli settlements in
the West Bank, which are recognized as illegal under international law by the United
Nations. In these locations, the Israeli Football Association and the Israeli Olympic Committee
organize official sporting competitions.
2
It was further noted that the freedom of movement of Palestinian athletes is severely
restricted due to limitations imposed by the Israeli authorities. As a result, they are unable
to train or compete outside the territory where they reside, nor are they able to
host sporting events in their own territory, highlighting an intolerable disparity of treatment.
The Olympic Charter defines the practice of sport as a fundamental human right. Today,
the exercise of this right is denied to Palestinians due to the clear and widely recognized
responsibility of the Government of the State of Israel, which is itself a member of the
International Olympic Committee.
The seven “Fundamental Principles of Olympism”, which open the Olympic Charter, are
explicit: belonging to the Olympic Movement requires respect for the Charter, whose
values are clearly defined. These include respect for internationally recognized human
rights and fundamental universal ethical principles, the promotion of a peaceful society,
the preservation of human dignity, and the enjoyment of rights and freedoms without
discrimination of any kind based on race, colour, sex, sexual orientation, language, religion,
political opinion, social origin, property, birth, or other status.
The Olympic Charter also reiterates that every individual must have the possibility to
practice sport without discrimination of any kind, in full respect of internationally recognized
human rights.
Similar principles are enshrined in the statutes of FIFA and UEFA.
In the past, for the open violation of these same principles, several countries have been
suspended by the International Olympic Committee – for example apartheid-era South
Africa and, more recently, Russia following its aggression against Ukraine.
In my capacity as Chair of the Standing Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies
on Human Rights, I therefore call upon you, Presidents of the IOC, FIFA and UEFA, to
make every effort – within your respective competencies – to ensure that the Government
of Israel brings an end to its policy of destroying every aspect of Palestinian life,
including sport. I also urge you to assess whether, on the basis of the facts outlined
above and documented by the Palestinian Olympic Committee, sanctioning measures
similar to those applied to other countries should be considered with regard to the State
of Israel.
I look forward to your kind reply.
Sincerely,
Hon. Laura Boldrini
Rome, March 10, 2026

At what point do mass media call Israeli settlers doing this, 'terrorists'?
Ihab Hassan@IhabHassane
Israeli settlers brutally beat a father, then murdered his son. On the left is Motasem Odeh. On the right is his son, Ameer Odeh, who was murdered by Israeli settlers in the Village of Qusra. Israeli settler terrorism in the West Bank has reached unprecedented levels.
