The Taliban’s new decree bans women’s voices from being heard by men outside their family. This regime has progressively banned women from work, education, travel, media, and public life, reducing their existence to mere reproductive functions with no voice or face.

Good News Alert — Nineteen female medical students who were banned from finishing university in Afghanistan will be completing their studies in Scotland. The students were forced to give up their medical education after the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan three years ago and clamped down on women’s rights. The students arrived in Edinburgh earlier this week, after years of fearing for their education - and at times, their lives. It was made possible by the Linda Norgrove Foundation, which worked with UK and Scottish governments to arrange visas and placements at medical schools. The foundation was set up in memory of aid worker Linda Norgrove, from Uig in Lewis, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010.

The only real failure is abandoning your principles.
