That was the through-line as the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Partnership Platform on Localizing the SDGs opened its third edition during this year's HLPF, at a pivotal moment marked by the final review of SDG 11 before 2030, the ten-year milestone of the New Urban Agenda, and renewed attention to the role of local and regional governments in delivering the 2030 Agenda. Leaders were clear about what delivery now demands: effective and inclusive multilevel governance, policy coherence across sectors and levels, and partnerships that channel support and resources to local action. ✅ Turning partnerships into action at #HLPF2026! @UNHABITAT was pleased to join @globalcompactFi, Finnish National Commission on Sustainable Development, @MASE_IT and the @Local2030 Coalition at the HLPF Reception: Turning Global Goals into Local Action. This event brought together two key supporters of localization and of UN-Habitat’s work on governance and the SDGs: Finland and Italy. A clear message ran through the discussion: finance follows trust. Local governments deliver many of the services that underpin the SDGs. ✅ At #HLPF2026, @UNHABITAT saw the launch of the United Nations @Local2030 Coalition Policy Brief on Localizing the SDGs by Advancing the Six Transitions at the Local Level – together with the @UNDESA, @FAO, @ilo and @UNDP. Anchored in practice and co-created by the UN and stakeholder partners, the Policy Brief provides practical guidance and operational recommendations to help translate the Six Transitions into systemic change at the local level. It points to concrete guidance and tools to put this into practice: the Local2030 Coalition’s Localization Blueprint, the SDG Localization Marker, and National SDG Localization Frameworks, as promoted by the Partnership Platform on Localizing the SDG. 🌍 A full room at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Partnership Platform on Localizing the SDGs reflected growing global momentum behind SDG localization and multilevel governance! Convened by @UNHABITAT and @MASE_IT and the @Local2030 Coalition with @UNDESA @ECA_OFFICIAL @uclg_org @OECD, the Annual Meeting brought together governments, stakeholders and partners from the globe to advance coherent and coordinated action for territorial transformation. The Annual Meeting saw 180 in-person participants, representing 45 countries and 87 institutions. After 2 years of implementation, this Meeting was key to consolidate progress achieved and chart a clear path for scaling up partnerships and operational support beyond 2026.
