One of the “big 3” credit rating agencies @Moodys recently opened a public consultation on its methodology for rating MDBs. Greater transparency is welcome. But the method has major flaws for African stakeholders - @LwereTrevor and I explain in @devex devex.com/news/moody-s-m…

The APRM Annual Technical Engagement on VNRs and Agenda 2063 Domestication served as a powerful reminder that while governance is often debated in high-level boardrooms, its true impact is felt on the streets and in the homes of everyday Africans. The dialogue opened with a sobering look at the "lived experience" of systemic breakdown, as Zakhona Mvelase of AWACN and Asafika Mpako of Afrobarometer highlighted how corruption and youth unemployment act as the primary barriers to achieving the SDGs. These sessions set a profound tone for the engagement: that technical fixes must be rooted in human dignity. Against this backdrop, Karam Singh, Head of Liaison at Good Governance Africa, emerged as a pivotal voice for strategic alignment and grassroots empowerment. Moderating a high-level panel on the Third APRM Biennial Report, Singh navigated the complex intersection of governance enablers and the continent’s practical needs, advocating for an evidence-based approach that moves beyond rhetoric. His presentation on the role of civil society and youth in the "Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan" was a standout moment, illustrating how Good Governance Africa’s initiatives directly bridge the gap between regional research and local action. As the discussion transitioned into the "how" of implementation—focusing on transparent budgeting and innovative financing with leaders like Amina Harbi and Samuel Omwa—Singh’s contributions underscored a vital truth: for Africa’s development priorities to survive a shifting global landscape, they must be championed by a governance framework that is as inclusive as it is accountable.

READ 📚 In 2019, the Republic of Namibia undertook an @APRMorg Targeted Review on youth unemployment in an effort to identify solutions to the rising levels of joblessness. This year, at the APR Forum of Heads of States & Government, Namibia presented its progress report. This achievement by Namibia reflects APRM’s commitment to delivering on its mandate with tangible impact. Link below : aprm.au.int/en/documents/2…
