I'd like to congratulate what was once the Republican Party on taking sole custody of the Ageism Issue for Election 2024; and all the discrimination & hypocrisy that comes with it.

Three relatively minor rulings from #SCOTUS today and no rulings expected tomorrow means that we're heading into the last three weeks before summer recess (at least going on the Court's typical schedule) with *all of these* cases left to decide (yellow highlight = major case):

Liz Cheney just said something deeply troubling: If SCOTUS delays immunity ruling, voters might be denied critical info about Trump's conduct while the mob raged, which Jack Smith has. That would reward Trump allies for their coverup. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/180896…

In recent public comments, Justice Alito pushed back hard against Congress’s authority to regulate the Court. My friend @steve_vladeck has any number of examples of why Alito’s argument is both belied by history and the plain text of the Constitution. Here’s one:
Steve Vladeck@steve_vladeck

Justice Alito doesn’t hold one of the six seats that Congress created in the Judiciary Act of 1789. His seat was created on March 3, 1837—when Congress created the Eighth and Ninth Circuits. Lucky for him that Congress had the power to regulate the Court’s size…

Dear Justice Alito: You’re on the Supreme Court in part because Congress expanded the Court to 9 Justices. Congress can impeach Justices and can in many cases strip the Court of jurisdiction. Congress has always regulated you and will continue to do so. You are not above the law.
Nate Raymond@nateraymond

Justice Alito tells the @WSJ that Congress has no business policing SCOTUS. "I know this is a controversial view, but I’m willing to say it... No provision in the Constitution gives them the authority to regulate the Supreme Court—period." wsj.com/articles/samue…

If you are in the media you don’t have to call it Bidenomics but you should at least report that economic data is exceeding expectations. And if you were one of the experts trashing our rescue packages as dangerously large, it would be nice to hear from you.

The US is still leading the economic recovery in the G7! Compared to just before the pandemic, here's how GDP has changed across G7 members: US +6.7% Canada +4% (through Q1) Italy +1.6% (through Q1) France +1.3% Germany +0.5% UK -0.5% (through Q1) Japan -1.1% (through Q1)

One of the first things I taught my kids-when they were old enough-when it comes to analyzing other people, is this: Watch how they treat people they don’t currently need anything from. You can glean enough from 5 minutes of observing them in that situation to last you an entire lifetime.

Can't overstate the brazenness of former President's request to discuss classified info w/ his attys at Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster, which are the scenes of the crime. It's like a request to re-victimize the U.S. govt/intelligence community.
Brandon Van Grack@BVanGrack

As DOJ notes, I've never heard of a situation where classified docs could be reviewed by defense counsel and defendant outside of a SCIF. And some of this information is particularly sensitive.
