@CarolWalshReal1 Wine vat, olive press, tallow pots and candle dippers, so many things to make the missions relatively self sufficient. Of course, the Spanish gov't was far away in Mexico City and farther in Madrid--not much help or supplies coming their way.

My last stop on the Mission trail is the tiny town of San Miguel just north of Paso Robles. I had it almost all to myself. It was roasting hot but deliciously cool inside. Because it's less visited and still quite rural, but for 101 running by, feels very different. I love how much color they have in the chapel and on the walls of the courtyard. Definitely check out the old Adobe ranch house down the road. It was stagecoach stop with the little saloon and the Wells Fargo office. And then that grew into the old 101 road.

I received a check 40 years on for an old debt (paid in full). I have some 'gun money'! I wondered where did that term derive from... ?Found 'Irish gun money'. #gunMoney #history #saturdayvibe

Guess the year this photo was taken? The most interesting thing about this photo is that at first they look like strangers, but the more you look, the more they could be part of the same hipster band. So, If they actually were a hipster band, what year would they be from?

@MisterMcPet @RetroBayArea A horrific accidents was in August, 1984 when a nut case deliberately rammed his car head-on high speed into a Hyde car ascending Hyde from the wharf. Injured 23 & killed the grip man. Conductor saved the loaded car from careening downhill. My brother, SFPD. was at the scene.

@SFCCM @RetroBayArea OK, this level of detail is a bit scary …. And the “accident” - was that the one where brakes failed and amputated a limb on a tourist? My memory is vague on when that happened.

@MisterMcPet @RetroBayArea Yes, near the car barn, empty car #9 broke loose and crashed into a car full of people. A Canadian man was caught for 90 minutes and ended up loosing his leg. Didn't mean to be "scary" though--cables cars have long histories and "recycling" was very common over the years!

@rayzrlove Tech "chops" strictly due to robotic motives--no concern for art or sentimentality. An old buddy of mine found a video catalog from the 80s-he check running times on it, some later VHS tapes and dvds. The movies had steadily reduced in showing time.

@SFCCM There used to be a full video of the farm scene and the tune. It looks to have been given a hatchet job. X prevents me from finding my original video post.

@DrPopCultureUSA I loved that show as a boy. I bought the series when it appeared on DVD. As an adult, it’s practically unwatchable after the first season or so. Leo G. Carroll as Mr Waverly was the exception. He was always watchable.

@jmasseypoet @JaneWisdom34856 I lived in Arcata as a youngster in the 50s while my dad taught at Humboldt State, when redwood logging and lumbering drove the economy. Humboldt County was a wonderful place to be a kid.

A part of me wants to move back to Northern California (far north in Humboldt County), buy a shack, and devote myself entirely to a spiritual life and green smoothies. I’ll collect crystals. I’ll forage for mushrooms. I’ll take didgeridoo lessons and serenade the banana slugs.

The performers and presenters at the 1972 Grammy Awards could form their own Hall of Fame! Quick question: Four out of five New Artist nominees had solid-to-great careers, but who was Chase?

@BrigadierBurma Worked many years ago with an old Irish-Norwegian rower and sailor, who used to apologize for being occasionally tardy, "I came at ramming speed, but to no avail..."

I am suddenly reminded during tense times in our Emergency Operations Center (EOC), I would take a pair of wooden Mallets, and yelling “Flank Speed!” I would pound them on a table in galley rower rhythm. It always got a laugh and steadied the men.
