Building more homes lowers housing costs. Full stop. Let’s keep working to remove the barriers that block new housing & thus fuel our affordability crisis.
M. Nolan Gray 🥑@mnolangray
For 45 years, Berkeley built virtually no new housing. By the mid-2010s, it was the most expensive college town in America. Shortly thereafter, YIMBYs took over and kicked off a building boom. Today, nominal rents are below 2018 rates—remarkable progress on affordability.

We’re doing things differently in San Francisco when it comes to homelessness. And we’re seeing results.
- Nearly 1,000 fewer people are sleeping on our streets compared to 2024—a major sign that our strategy is working.
- Unsheltered homelessness in San Francisco is now at its lowest level in 15 years.
- The number of people in tents is down 85%.
These numbers come from the 2026 Point in Time Count. The takeaway is clear: More people are coming inside to get shelter and treatment, and we are moving in the right direction.

With zero precedent to suggest they might succeed, Lee Yick and the Chinese Six Companies of San Francisco bravely asserted the promise of the U.S. Constitution in suing over discriminatory enforcement 140 years ago. Their victory in Yick Wo v. Hopkins, 118 U.S. 356 (1886) was among history’s first instances in which San Franciscans of principle and daring changed America and, with it, the world.
It remains the foundational Equal Protection precedent in constitutional law — cited countless times in rulings since — and it is an enduring and enormously important legacy of San Francisco’s Chinese community.
I’m proud to represent the neighborhood where justice was finally done, and I am grateful to all the community leaders we’ll be joining this week to celebrate this landmark milestone.

Tourism in San Francisco is on the rise just like our city. New stats tell the story:
➡️ We’re projected to welcome 24.2 million visitors in 2026, up from 23.7 million last year.
➡️ Visitor spending is set to reach $9.9 billion, exceeding our 2019 record.
➡️ Conventions booking are up +8% on top of last year’s +14% gain.
➡️ In 2025, tourism generated $655 million in tax revenue for our city.
➡️ The industry also supports 63,900 SF jobs across hotels, restaurants, retail, and cultural institutions.
When tourist come to San Francisco, it benefits our entire city.

I just finished my third ride along with SFPD since being elected Supervisor in San Francisco.
Here's what I saw and learned:
- The drug market is significantly smaller since last year.
- Due to increased SFPD enforcement and action from our DA, the drug market has constrained its hours of operation to midnight to three am.
- The dealers themselves are adapting to increased enforcement, and shifting from selling in crowds to instead becoming mobile and doing drop-offs increasingly.
- The drug market has in turn shifted into smaller pockets dispersed in Hayes, Mission, upper Tenderloin
- The RESET center is also starting to help individuals suffering on our streets with an alternative to jail
SFPD, the DA's office, and Mayor's office are all working together to create new strategies now to tackle this changing landscape to the open air drug market.
