ドイツのある大学で、「イスラーム式の屠殺の際に牛は痛みを感じるのかどうか」を調べるための科学的な実験が行われました。研究では、脳の電気信号を測定し、痛みの有無やその強さを判断できるEEG（脳波測定装置）が使用されました。
牛に装置を取り付け、準備を整えたうえで屠殺が行われました。すると、最初の3秒間は脳の電気活動に変化が見られず、牛は痛みを感じていないことが示されました。続く3秒間で、切断部からの急激な出血により脳への血流が大きく減少し、牛は意識を失って完全に昏睡状態に入りました。さらに6秒後には、EEGにおいて脳の電気活動が停止したことが確認され、牛は死亡し、その間痛みを感じていなかったと結論づけられました。
この結果は、イスラーム式の屠殺が動物の苦痛を最小限に抑える、迅速で人道的な方法であることを示しています。まことに、この偉大な教えの中にある知恵には驚かされます。
現代に行われている電気ショック方法は動物にとって逆に良くありません。
