What is this waffle about a 'grown up conversation'. Who is stopping a conversation? No one except @FineGael and @fiannafailparty because they wouldn't like the result. They cannot discuss making the @defenceforces #Fit4Purpose because they are not interested. The Consultative Forum on International Security was an opportunity for a good conversation on #NationalSecurity but FF & FG parties tried a stitch-up and were called out by the President. Now they cannot discuss defence without including the need to invite in foreign forces to do the work of the DF. If they properly funded the DF there would be no need. A grown up conversation is not what is needed but there is a need for FG and FF to get real.

Why was Palestine handed over to European settlers and why should the indigenous population accept the settler conquest? You refer to UNSC resolution of 1947, as the basis for the settlement. You are very selective regarding which UNSC resolutions to follow, i.e only the ones you like. Going by your logic the original natives of America are entitled to take back their land from their European conquers, the same with the 1st nations of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Jews are indigenous to the area since 3.200 years and had a continuous presence during all the centuries under different occupiers despite the fact that millions have been expelled by the Romans and forced into Diaspora. Also European Jews (Ashkenazi) coming to the region in the early 20th century are descendants of the ancient bronze age Levantines and Canaanites. This is proven by +15 genome-wide genetic studies. Jews did not "colonize" the land but returned home after 2.000 years of expulsion, persecution, pogroms, massacres and the Holocaust, it was a de-colonization! There was never a state, nation or kingdom called "Palestine", there was never a people called the "Palestinians", they identified themselves as Syrians, Egypts, Arabs or simply "people from the settlement of XY". Jews did not "clear off" the land, they bought land legally from Arab landowners, first under the sanction of the Ottoman Empire, later under the British Mandate for Palestine, they were allowed to buy land and build settlements under the auspices of the League Of Nations. When the UN Partion Plan of 1947 was negotiated, the plan intended a state for the Jews and a state for the Arabs. The Jews accepted, the Arabs refused and when Israel declared its independence it was attacked by five Arab nations the very next day. They told the "Palestinians" living on the land now belonging to Israel to leave their homes because they will "drive the Jews into the sea" in a few weeks and promised them that they can return when Israel is annihilated. But they lost the war and Israel prevailed. More than 150.000 "Palestinians" refused the directive of the Arab leaders and remained in their homes. They became the foundation of more than 2.1 million Arabs living in Israel today with same and equal rights. Why are people so full of hate and so low on knowledge about history and facts at the same time? Seems there is a coherence...

22 countries signed a statement condemning Iran for defending its waters. Italy. France. Germany. Japan. Canada. Australia. The UK. All of them. They arm Israel. They bombed Libya. They invaded Iraq. They blockade Yemen. Now they want to lecture Iran about freedom of navigation. When Iran protects its coastline, it's called aggression. When the US blocks Iranian oil, it's called sanctions. When Israel bombs Iranian soil, it's called self-defense. The hypocrisy is the point. The list is long. The shame is longer. History will record it.

Iran has never contemplated to initiate an unprovoked attack on Europe. Israel, on the other hand, has spent decades theorising what’s dubbed the “Samson Option".
