Multilingual Programs at SLCSD

Our building came together to create an ofrenda with our Spanish Dept. Sharing the rich cultural traditions of Día de Los Muertos is one way we honor our community.

We are thrilled to have 10 TESOL students from @COE_UNI at @StormLakeCSD this week! They kicked off the week by listening to author, Nyajouk Doluony! @alizafones

Thirteen elementary teachers participated in learning labs hosted by ELL teachers and co-teachers at @StormLakeHighS2 on Thursday! Our elementary teacher participants are all working hard on their #ell endorsement through @MorningsideEdu & @BuenaVistaUniv!

We love it when teachers share their expertise across the district! This week several elementary staff modeled @AmericanReading tools for our high school staff. We're especially grateful to all the students who read with us and helped us improve our practice!

Kicking off another great year to be a 🌪️! Our K-3 #duallanguage students, families, and staff had a great time connecting today at registration & eating lunch together! This will be our largest year with 12 classrooms and over 250 students. @StormLakeCSD

Today, TWENTY SIX seniors at @StormLakeHighS2 received their #SealofBiliteracy awards from very excited teachers and staff! We are so proud of our students' commitment to #bilingualism and #biliteracy!

Today, students in Dr. Mill's Spanish in the Community class at @BuenaVistaUniv came to volunteer with our kindergarten dual language students to read books and do fun activities! @StormLakeCSD

Earlier this week our amazing middle school MLL teachers hosted a round table discussion for best classroom practices for MLL students to other staff members! Check out that after school turnout by our dedicated @MiddleStorm class!

A group of bilingual, SLHS students went to Our Place to learn more about interpreting from Professor Piet Koene. Students practiced medical, legal, consecutive, and simultaneously interpreting with lots of hands on activities! @StormLakeHighS2 @nwciowa @Irishernandez22

We loved welcoming so many students and their grown-ups at our kinder dual language literacy event tonight! Our theme was the 💚 love of reading 💚! We can't wait to see how these tiny tornadoes will keep growing - in both English & Spanish! 🌪️ @StormLakeCSD #AmericasSchool
