South London Sharks

Finally, a word for our captain @maxhillmax as he recovers from a serious injury. He made the no.10 role his own, dragged us through tough games and scored vital goals. Off the pitch he’s the first man you want in the changing room before and in the pub after. Speedy recovery Max

What a season 2023/24 was. A decent run of form in 2022/23 continued into this season, taking us from “nice to be up there” to “we’re in a promotion race now” to the pressure of “we might actually do this”. It’ll live long in the memory

With the new season about to start, it’s time to wrap up some business from last season - the 2023/24 awards. First up, goal of the season goes to @calumjones23, for his long range thunderbolt against Limehouse Tigres. The view from directly behind it was pretty spectacular ⭐️

We’re looking for a couple of players to join us for the new season. Ideal attributes: turning up on a cold January morning mainly for the pint afterwards, obscure knowledge of 90s footballers, and at least one working foot. DM us if you’re interested 🦈⚽️

FT Sharks 5-2 Birkbeck. Goals from Burnett (x2), Cannon, @rohanhope and @maxhillmax secured promotion to Division 3 🦈⚽️🍾🍾🍾

FT (last week) Sharks 6-1 Bbow Bbadgers. Sharks were 5-0 up at HT thanks to goals from @rohanhope, Summer’s and a hat-trick from MOTM @calumjones23. @maxhillmax rounded things off with the sixth in the second half 🦈⚽️

Trying to get from woolwich to Stratford and back. @TfL, you are a joke! Dlr, shut. Elisabeth line, shut. Blackwall tunnel southbound, shut. Surely you should speak to each other and agree to keep one service open, or is that too difficult?

FT (last week) Sharks 2 v 2 Limehouse Tigres. The first match of the year, 2nd v 3rd. @calumjones23 smashed Sharks ahead, but Tigres equalised before HT, and then briefly took the lead on 70ish mins. Jones headed home his 2nd to equalise, and ensure honours were even 🦈⚽️

FT Sharks 6-1 East London. Burnett and Todd put the Sharks 2-1 up at HT, but Sharks came out hard in the 2nd half, with goals from Burnett, Summers and Reddie (x2!) wrapping it up. Cotter pulled the strings with FIVE assists, but Reddie’s two goals took MOTM 🦈⚽️

FT (last week): Sharks 4-1 Birkbeck. 1-0 up at HT (Burnett), Sharks were pegged back, but scored three late goals (Cotter, Hill, Burnett again) to take all three points 🦈⚽️

FT (in a few matches we forgot to post) Sharks 3-4 Bbow, Sharks 4-1 Wojak and, in today’s top of the table clash, Sharks 3-4 Community Road. A great match against good friends Community Road saw Sharks 1-0 up and 4-1 down, before fighting back to 4-3. 3 points next week! 🦈⚽️

POTD was McDonald, who made a series of fine saves to keep Sharks level and in the match, and even launched a few counterattacks with his sweeping 🦈⚽️

FT Sharks 3-1 Wojak. 0-0 at HT, Sharks fell behind with about 20 to go. Birthday boy @EHurley3000 swept home the equaliser, before Burnett delicately lobbed the keeper to put Sharks 2-1 up. @calumjones23 tucked home a late penalty to make the game safe 🦈⚽️

FT Sharks 1-4 Fish Island. The sea derby went the way of the fish. 2-0 down at HT, Sharks started the second half well but two quick goals killed the momentum. @rohanhope tucked away a consolation at the end. Back to the league next week 🦈⚽️

FT: Sharks 4-3 NL Kaisers. 1-0 up, 2-1 down, and then 3-2 down at HT, Sharks then had a man sent off to leave themselves with an uphill battle. But goals from captain @maxhillmax and POTD Cotter gave the 10 men victory. Hodgson and McDonald also on target ⚽️🦈
