The @SLRedCross conducted a Branch Disaster Response Team Refresher Training for the Kandy Branch, equipping youth and volunteers with vital skills in disaster response and community safety. Building a stronger,more prepared network to support communities when it matters most.

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society continues its relief efforts through well cleaning, medical camps, cash grant distributions, first aid services, cleanup campaigns, and essential relief support, helping families recover with dignity and hope. Figures as of 06 March 2026.

After Cyclone Ditwah, the SLRCS - Kandy Branch, with support from UNICEF, established Child-Friendly Spaces in 9 centers across the Central Province, providing safe and supportive environments where children can play, learn, express themselves, and receive psycho-social support.

"It was not dramatic. Just two people, hands moving in the air." This is what took place when Praveen, a Sri Lanka Red Cross volunteer met a young deaf man when Cyclone Ditwah was about to hit the country, and the early warnings were taking place. Praveen sat with him and explained the situation using sign language, the scale of the cyclone, what to expect, and what was being done. Praveen, a hearing person, and the eldest son of deaf parents, grew up seeing how quickly critical information moves during emergencies and how easily people with disabilities miss out simply because vital messages are not communicated in ways everyone can understand. Cyclone Ditwah’s floods devastated Sri Lanka in Nov 2025, affecting 1.7M people and destroying homes. With @IFRC support, Sri Lanka Red Cross Society is providing cash assistance so families can rebuild. Volunteers are registering those most in need in Kandy and beyond.

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society - Vavuniya Branch organized a medical camp in Kangankulam, Vengalachettikulam DS Division, delivering essential medical care and support to over 100 individuals impacted by Cyclone Ditwah.

𝗦𝗟𝗙𝗜 and @SLRedCross launched a National Framework to protect child disaster survivors and conducted a 03 day Training of Trainers on psychosocial support for children affected by hurricanes, landslides, and floods, ensuring standardized mental health care during emergencies.
