Yesterday I finished my first external placement in mainstream community pediatrics. I enjoyed it so much more than I expected and can really see myself working in that role, which is a lovely way to feel at the end of placement!

Developmental Language Disorder is a hidden condition. DLD can be missed as not all young people with DLD have speech problems. Let’s raise the profile of DLD so more young people can be recognised and supported. Thank you Siouxsie for illustrating this in your art! #DLDday

@SLT2beVicky @HCPT Hey I was there too with another #SLT in our group and we saw similar things with our young people too! Such a fantastic experience I wonder how many other #SLTs and #AHPs travel with @HCPT

I spent a week in Lourdes this week with @hcpt supporting children with a range of needs. Throughout the week I watched a non-verbal child learn how to tell us what his favourite ice cream flavour is and watched another child with severe CAS do a solo of 'twinkle twinkle'

It also taught me that SLT doesn't need to happen in a formal setting, communication is all around us and everyone deserves to be able to communicate no matter their abilities or disabilities #mysltday

Seeing this progress (amongst a whole load of other examples) and then witnessing the parents' reactions when they saw what their children had learnt solidified my passion for this field and made me so excited for my future career

Would definitely recommend this documentary, it was an emotional watch but it's so refreshing to see a wider range of autistic experiences being represented bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0b…
