so pleased to see the @RCSLT highlighting the positive impact SLT in CAMHS can have and how important it is for people to be accessing speech therapy in mental health services 🙌🏻

We hosted @RCSLT @RCSLTpolicy today to share the much needed role of speech and language therapy in mental health. We have salt in mental health in every directorate in @LPTnhs. We make impact on engagement and medication compliance and give ppl a voice.

My grandad had a laryngectomy due to cancer and told me ‘become a speech and language therapist because I didn’t think I’d say I love you to you again but I did because of speech therapy’ The gap on the wall has waited years for my grad photo and today we filled it 🤍 @RCSLT

@SLT_michaelay @RCSLT Congratulations! I worked in H&N cancer for over 20 years and the moment a laryngectomy patient heard their new voice for the first time was always the most satisfying part of the job. What great motivation. And expert patients are all stars and do such an important job!

This is grandad. He spent a long time going into his SALT clinic speaking to patients about to undergo a laryngectomy as an ‘expert by experience’ showing off his remaining VERY strong Scottish accent as a trachy user post laryngectomy ☺️ he still tells me he loves me daily

@slt_amyadams I feel you! I didn’t get any of my diss choices and hated mine, found I fell in love with it by teaching it all to my partner while writing, realised how much I knew and had learnt without realising throughout the course helped the imposter syndrome too! X
