Thanks for acknowledging racism and that Muslims have been targeted, but you’ve forgotten to mention Islamophobia. Can you please amend @thecsp @IshmaelBeckford? See our tweet if it's not clear why #CallingItOut explicitly matters, thanks! x.com/BritishIMA/sta…
Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)@thecsp

CSP condemns racist thuggery @IshmaelBeckford, chair of the CSP council, has condemned recent violence in several parts of the country targeting Muslim, Black and migrant communities and also the police. He said: 'CSP members live and work in many of the communities which have seen organised racist violence over recent days. We stand with these communities and with our members in the face of threats and attacks. We welcome the commitments made by the Government and police to tackle those organising this criminality.' 'Those behind these attacks on local communities are seeking to exploit and misattribute grievances around the decline of services such as the NHS, low pay and other genuine problems our society faces. Terrorising local communities does nothing to address these issues. Only by working together can we build a better future for all.'

The nature of community work asks us to constantly re-orientate. With need, risk, and urgency being so high and individual capacity being so low we must continue to build coalitions of care that do not rely on individual reactions, but fluid community responses that are adaptive.

When politicians demonise migrants, the far right listen. When they say refugees should be “sent back to where they came from”, the far right listen. When they complain about asylum seekers staying in hotels, the far right listen. Let’s promote a message of unity instead. One that tackles the issues facing us all: the housing crisis, the collapse of our NHS and the disaster of privatisation. One that gives hope to all communities that a fairer society is possible. Stand up to racism. Defend refugees. Inspire belief in a better world. That is how you defeat the far right once and for all.

Why do organisations explicitly avoid calling out Islamophobia? Language is important, and avoiding the term is part of the problem. Media rhetoric consistently paints Muslims as the "bad guys". This daily narrative impacts Muslims and contributes to the issues we see today.

@SLTeaTime @RCSLT Good to see but would be even better if they call it what it is - Islamophobia/anti-muslim hate. @theRCOT would be interested to know why this was left out?
