@JWonCATCHING Also interesting that the 2nd baseman was aware/ready to cover 1st, clearly they were somewhat prepared for this and it was still basically impossible to defend unless you decide right off the bat to concede the run and get the out at 1st.

Probably not the 1st time Drew Gilbert layed down a safety squeeze bunt with runners on 1st & 3rd. Takes him back to his UT days. 1) Very tough to defend especially with a LHH who can also target the 4 hole. 2) Challenges the 1st baseman to shuffle off & cover the 4 hole or charge & close the gap on the bunt. 3) Freeman initially starts to shuffle off & then breaks to the plate when he sees the bunt show. Slows him down enough to keep him from getting to the bunt soon enough. (Ball backs up some when hits the ground & rolls away from him. Might have been able to catch the bunt in the air if he breaks early & aggressively. 4) Good read albeit a little delayed( Based on initial trajectory of bunt) by the runner at 3B when he sees that Freeman is not going to be able to catch it in the air & the pitcher has no play.

@GowagsKyle Only thing I could see is... if you know the SS is holding you on and closer to second base than you are, something softly hit in the 5/6 hole you have a decent shot of being safe on.

This is a classic example of “resulting.” This is a terrible read by the runner at 2nd and yet the announcer calls it a “heads up play.” I have a hunch the coaches weren’t altogether pleased with this “heads up play.”

@JWonCATCHING Agreed that the long hold before the pick matters. So many guys have been taught to pick as they're coming set. Give the runner a chance to freeze/flinch and you can get him.

@NietoJr17 @JWonCATCHING Some are just perfect bunts that are hard to defend. But there are also some where the 2B isn’t ready to cover the bag and the 1B just crashes. I think in the 1st/3rd situation there has to be a safety squeeze awareness where the 2B is ready to cover 1st if needed.

@NietoJr17 @JWonCATCHING IMO it usually stems from the 2B playing up the middle/double play depth and the 1B crashing when they see hands instead of reading the bunt first and only abandoning the bag if they need to

@JWonCATCHING It’s crazy how much infielders’ internal clocks have built in the assumption that guys are going to only go 85%! The Dansby play was an awesome example.

@JWonCATCHING Love this, even if he gets back in time, he’s going to take a small lead for the rest of the AB and makes it way easier to get lead runner on any sort of crash play.

Mets in a unique bunt defense with runners on 1B & 2B with no outs. Lindor is holding the runner at 2B much like a 1B at first. David Peterson makes a lightning quick & accurate throw to easily pick the runner off.

@Challenger_ST This is awesome, only thing I would've added would be body composition/nutrition. If your only life goal was to get as fast as possible, evaluating your body comp. would be essential. Elite sprinters/really fast field sport athletes are almost all low BF%.

If I had 12 months to get as fast as possible Like my only life goal was to get as fast as I could & nothing else This is what I would do weekly for those 12 months to get optimal results 🧵 Let’s talk about it
