@SM0MDG

My main interest is chasing DX on topband and 10 meter but I also like contesting and activating rare places.

3YØK have paid the $400,000 vessel deposit today! This weekend the team meet in Oslo for packing the container, and it will be shipped in 1 month. Our plans are firm, and we have lined up the equipment in a staged approach, where equipment will be taken onshore with helicopter.

@mwfoutch1 I have used it on several vacation trips together with the IC-705. Works like a charm! Really efficient RF sensing for PTT and band selection. I never saw the need for a PTT cable. Output power is dependent on supply voltage, see manual.

@OGridPete Nice! I’have a look the American Adventure molle. Looking for a better solution for my JKU 2018 than I have now. Thanks!

@SM0MDG The overhead MOLLE shelf is from American Adventure Lab with a custom mount adapter I fabricated for a standard 100mm VESA mount on the Maestro’s back. I welded a short pipe to a flat plate to connect a pipe-style VESA mount, with the plate bolting securely to the MOLLE shelf.

After getting fed up with the Tarheel’s slow tuning on my Jeep (as I mentioned last time), I’ve ditched it and gone all-in on the Icom AH-740, and it’s a game-changer. I fabricated a beefy mount to secure it on the Jeep’s rear, ran a 1-inch-wide grounding strap to the frame, connected the coax and control cable, and took it for a spin this weekend. It matches the Tarheel’s performance, maybe even tops it, without the constant tuning grief. Now, I can hop between 10 and 80 meters and be on frequency in an instant. I know it’s a pricey piece of kit, but i couldn’t be happier with the investment. I’m sticking with the supplied whip for now, and it’s performing surprisingly well. Still, I’m on the prowl for the AH-5NV NVIS kit to boost the lower bands, but it’s proving hard to source stateside. Since the AH-740 is built for Icom radios and I’m using a Flex 6300, I’ve rigged a manual push-button switch to trigger tuning. It does the job, but I’m looking for a more integrated solution. Next, I’ll be experimenting with a USB-to-serial adapter and the Flex API to see if I can whip up something more elegant. Stay tuned, and I’ll report back with whatever I come up with.

The Ultimate HOA Hack: A Fully Capable Mobile HF Setup Living in an HOA doesn’t mean sacrificing your HF ambitions. A fully capable mobile HF setup is the best workaround, no antennas to hide, no letters from the board. But here’s the real bonus: you can move to where the RF noise floor is lowest. Escape the wall-wart jungle and chase the quiet. Whether it’s a quiet park, a shady overlook, or just the far end of the driveway, better signals are only a turn of the key away. To take it even further, my Jeep is now equipped with Starlink, which means I can park at the end of the driveway or a prime low-noise location and remotely operate the Flex radio installed inside the Jeep using a tablet, phone, laptop or even a Maestro from anywhere in the world, no need to stay in the vehicle. It’s the perfect blend of stealth, mobility, and capability, HOA-friendly and field-ready.
