Nadine Devaney, our volunteer Site Coordinator for South Umpqua UCAN Head Start, made over 90 crochet dinosaurs for the students and staff at Winston and South Umpqua schools! It was such a labor of love and the kids got SOOO excited! 🦖 😍

It’s time for the BIG REVEAL! The winner of the 2025 SMART Book Award is … The Red Jacket by Bob Holt! This book got kids laughing and highlighted the buoying effects of care and friendship at the same time. Big thanks Oregon kids for your votes!

Portland friends–the SMART Reading Associate Board is hosting a pint night on Wednesday, March 19, from 6-8pm at @LeikamBrewing! $1 of every pint purchased goes to benefit SMART’s work providing books and reading support to Oregon kids!

It’s the last week of voting for the SMART Book Award, and today we’re excited to feature another one of the nominees! Written and illustrated by Savannah Allen, "The Nature Journal" is a story about Tim and his dad, who are great together “like bacon and eggs.”

SMART held two book-cleaning events in Salem last week with @mapscu and volunteers from @salemkeizer Yoshikai Elementary as part of our efforts to expand the Children's Book Bank across Oregon! We are incredibly grateful for the community’s support in making this happen!
