Question of the summer closer to being answered - How much will my June planted corn yield? Planting date charts for CIL say 25% loss from normal dates. Will 2019 follow the average? June corn half milk about 10% left to add. Pic of same 111 CRM hybrid

@herbmacon So sorry Steve. Your dad will never be forgotten. He left his mark on the agricultural community in a way few can.

Ag Twitter - We Lost a huge fan of the American farmer today....my Dad My father spent his entire career working with Producers in central Illinois and loved them all. “Steve, NEVER tell a farmer how to raise corn, help them, but they know how to get it done!” RIP DAD

Correction: Hog manure and timely rains. Just enough when it really mattered.

Not to be perceived as a complete fear monger on here. There are excellent fields of corn in WIL also. Ear set at 6’ and above on two hybrids that would be considered to have low to med ear height. Hog manure can make things really growthy. Haha

@BryanBoock Walked a research plot west of Roseville this morning and I was surprised at the stress the corn had been under. Short plants, lots of noses. Will be off last two years for sure. Gauge at field looked like it had 7 tenths in it.

Good news: we’ve beat our July rain total. Bad News: we’ve received about .25”

@jerodmcdaniel @FergusonFarms90 Possible. Depends on how early it shuts down and the impact on shank stability. That is probably a little more dependent on genetics but no question anything that causes premature death could contribute to a weak shank and ear attachment.

Hot and dry weather catching up to WIL corn crop. Ears tipping will eventually shut off sugar flow and cause early black layer. Kernel size and weight will be reduced on the ears that are affected.

Fungicide timing does matter. Field sprayed but about 10 days late. Infection already taken place. Low disease pressure years not as critical but can be significant when under heavy pressure.

First appearance of ear rot in CIL that I have found. Rainfall or prolonged silk wetness during pollination needed for infection to occur with Diplodia. Very low levels found but keep an eye on corn after corn or heavy residue fields.

@trufflebutter77 Correct if you are experiencing drought stress the plants will not be able to fully recover and are not likely to show as much response to the cool temps.

Corn maturing rapidly will it slow down if temps remain cool? -heat has crop at early April pace - crop should slow down and fill longer if temps remain cool - it is possible that early stress and heat limited kernel size at the cellular level Next 2 weeks will tell us

Heavy flights of these guys in central Illinois - cloverworm. Not a pest of corn but can feed on soybeans and other forage crops.

Fungicide apps to corn already visible on satellite images from EncircaPro. No visible disease diffs yet. Images tell you treated plants greener. Will yield map look the same?
