Nancy Pelosi just hand-picked Connie Chan as her successor in CA-11 after holding the seat for nearly 40 years. Good news and reality check on SF homelessness this morning: The latest Point-in-Time Count shows real progress under Mayor Lurie — **22% drop in unsheltered homelessness**, **85% fewer tents**, and the **lowest unsheltered levels in 15 years**. But there’s also a rise in homeless families — and tents + fentanyl are still far too visible on our streets. This proves that **accountability and results-oriented policies work** when we demand them. Yet we’re still spending $100k–$300k per person with too many failures. Congratulations to all who finished #sanfrancisco's uniquely wacky race, #BayToBreakers . Bay to Breakers brings back great memories this morning. In 1982, as a Stanford student, I ran it standing right next to my brother Kenneth Ganezer (then a physics grad student at Berkeley) — and, no kidding, next to the legendary Rod Dixon and Craig Virgin. I turned to Ken and joked, “Now Ken, I want you to hold back the first mile. No faster than 4:15.” He punched my shoulder. Virgin raised an eyebrow wondering who these two guys were. True story. We earned our seeded start because we’d both run the Paul Masson Marathon in Cupertino the year before in under 3 hours (even though a cop accidentally directed the course the wrong way and cut off half a mile 😂). #BayToBreakers is one of the things that makes San Francisco special. Here’s hoping the next generation gets to enjoy a safer, cleaner, more functional city.
