Allicht een onpopulaire mening op Internationale Vrouwendag, maar ik heb het altijd vrij gemakkelijk gevonden om vrouw te zijn. In mijn professionele leven heb ik zelfs vaker het gevoel gehad dat het soms makkelijker is dan voor mannen.
Als mama én carrièrevrouw beschouw ik mezelf als een “feministe van de eerste generatie”. Voor mij betekent dit streven naar gelijkwaardigheid tussen mannen en vrouwen; niet noodzakelijk naar absolute gelijkheid.
Daarom ben ik ook geen voorstander van quota in bedrijven of bij verkiezingen. Posities zouden ingevuld moeten worden op basis van kwaliteiten, inzet en competenties, niet op basis van geslacht. Wie ergens geraakt, moet dat doen omdat hij of zij de beste kandidaat is, niet omdat een vakje moet worden aangevinkt.
