Nobody in the Trump administration planned for Iran to shut the Strait of Hormuz. Nobody planned for sustained missile strikes on American bases across the Gulf. Nobody planned for an energy crisis. Nobody planned for Europe to look at Washington, shrug, and walk the other way. Nobody, it turns out, planned for very much at all. Read the accounts of how this war was decided and you are left with one deeply uncomfortable realisation: the people who launched it appear to have been genuinely surprised by almost everything that followed. The Iranians shot back. The allies didn’t show up. The oil price went vertical. All of it, apparently, news to them. Which leaves two questions so obvious they’re almost embarrassing to ask. What exactly did they think was going to happen? And did anyone, in any room, at any point, think further ahead than the applause? Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

@BlackDumpling That’s…. WOW! Great premise. Add in a very, very slow redemption arc where the ideals of the Federation, and the capacity for good in his officers, begins to revive a similar capacity for good in Lorca and you have a potent story worthy of #StarTrek

BLACK DUMPLING™@BlackDumpling·
STAR TREK: The great tragedy of Discovery is knowing that this single character could've carried the entire show through several seasons at least. If he were an "evil" Picard but extraordinarily sly about it, where the audience knew he was a malevolent actor but the crew being wholly unawares. And that going on for years as we watch his schemes unfold and see that he's both ruthlessly competent but fiercely devoted to humanity. A kind of In the Pale Moonlight as a series long arc. It'd be difficult to pull off and it's clear none of the Discovery writers had the chops... but I'm telling you a seed was there.

Before y'all start cheering #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy cancellation, and hoping for Kurtzman firing, know that the loss of this show has made *any* new Trek (Year One, Legacy) much more UNLIKELY. Strap in for half a dozen Yellowstone spin-offs from Paramount. 🙄 Thanks trolls

Leichnitz is an incredibly sharp strategist in the progressive flank. The her insights are being ignored by @NDP speaks volumes to how the party hasn't learned the lessons from the last election. #cdnpoli

The NDP's federal leadership race has no French-speaking candidates. Does that doom them from the start? Podcast: @TheHerleBurly | Leichnitz & Topp: Is the party over for Canada's NDP? ▶️🔗youtu.be/cfWlBo_-Ju8?si…

I so glad he's doing okay. I don't know David personally but, honestly, as a journalist and commentator he's so personable that it often feels that way. Best wishes to David and my hope that he returns to the airwaves soon.
Stuart Benson@LeftHandStu

CBC’s Power & Politics host David Cochrane has paused his social media hiatus to dispel the speculation surrounding his ongoing absence from the show: “I can assure you this is simply a personal medical leave. I fully intend to return to the show when my leave is over.”
