Both are great options but the AR is better in just about every way.
Many people share what they like without explaining their reasoning or experience.
I was known for my AK work long before I was recognized for my AR work. In my career I have services approximately 2000 AK's and 30,000 AR's. I still have all of my Soviet and East German Gauges for AK's.
AK's are not more reliable in adverse conditions compared to an AR. AR's are sealed, AK's are not. AK's tend to behave better in extreme cold but this can be solved with proper types of lubrication.
AK's don't handle high round counts better than AR's in regards to parts longevity. Ranges that expend tons of ammo like Battlefield Las Vegas has shown this.
Quality AR parts are more easily sourced than Quality AK parts. Parts compatibility between countries of origin is also an issue. I can swap parts between a Canadian, Chinese, and American AR without issue (assuming the parts are made to proper dimensions).
I sold all of my AK's long ago, but I'll likely get another of Jim Fuller and I collaborate on a Class.

I train graduates from Gunsmith Schools all over the country. They don't deep dive into AR's or AK's.

AK's are fantastic firearms but they are inferior to an AR in just about every way.

@DangerFreedom25 @ColonelCrossfi1 @FirearmFury Stop just stop. This is a clickbait post. Why not say ford vs Chevy? You can spend $5k on an AR. It’s still not as reliable as an Ak. It’s physics. I’m a gunsmith. I graduated from the Colorado School of Trades. You don’t want this debate.

@Mrgunsngear @gunpolicy The only problem with the Snopes case is that it does not address standard capacity magazines.
