You just killed free public education and privatized schools, which you will have to pay for. You just sealed the deal on a national abortion ban, because you’re demented if you think it’s not coming. You just radicalized the Supreme Court for a generation. You just made women less safe and less free. You just made this country an oligarchy with the billionaires quite literally in charge now. People - including top US journalists, perhaps especially top US journalists - don’t quite get how bad it’s going to be. How beyond term one it’ll be. How bad the Musks and RFKs will be. I don’t think even I fully accept how bad it’s going to be and I have been shouting how bad it’s going to be for years.

A Bitter Pill: I'm struggling to find words this morning, my friends. So I will defer to the wisdom and eloquence of Abraham Lincoln: First: "Adhere to your purpose and you will soon feel as well as you ever did. On the contrary, if you falter, and give up, you will lose the power of keeping any resolution, and will regret it all your life." Second, one of my all-time favorite Lincoln quotes: "Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm." For now, find community and comfort in your loved ones, your friends, your neighbors. Support one another. Because the struggle for American democracy WILL continue.

Elections have consequences. The Supreme Court will be changed for a generation. I’ll never see a moderate court again in my lifetime. Alito and Thomas will step down and Trump will appoint 40 year old partisans to the bench. The damage he is about to inflict on our institutions the next 2 years will be irreparable.

He's got the senate, he's got the house, he's got the Supreme Court, and he's got the Presidency. He can do what he wants now. There will be no checks and balances. The dictatorship is here. Some will applaud it, but even they will suffer under it too.

You presented a measure of hope and optimism while displaying intelligence and discipline. You were pragmatic, deliberate, insightful, inspiring, and positive. You were the epitome of a political scientist and your campaign left everything on the field. You were our last best hope for an American aesthetic that millions of us are in pursuit of.
