Teach theology and philosophy. Reading is a hobby, it is “the noblest of distractions.”

There’s been much talk about the decline of reading. Here I respond to that essay from @NeilDotObrien on what we should do. Please give it a read. Link below:

And Starmer reads the room yet again 🤦🏼‍♀️ I did not have one single email from any constituents supporting this stupid idea - and very very many against it.

From the start, @TweetingThomas_ and I knew a version for children would need to follow. We wanted to help kids navigate the questions of our age—to meet the cultural challenges earlier and with understandable, theological vocabulary to answer them well. thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/trevin-w…

Britain has had barely any real productivity growth for over a decade, wages flatlining against inflation, house prices now around 8x average earnings, welfare spending exploding and nearly 1 million young people not in work or education. Meanwhile we import everything, make almost nothing, have no serious energy resilience and are already falling behind in the AI race. And yet Westminster thinks another game of musical chairs will somehow fix the country. It’s totally pathetic. A political class obsessed with internal squabbles while ordinary people get poorer, younger generations lose hope and Britain drifts further into managed decline. I’ve never felt so disillusioned with politics

Neil is right about maintaining a posture of neutrality with some helpful suggestions on how to do this, but the other option is if you're going to present explicit political positions, then you have to keep it balanced as I argued here a few years back: @savvascosti/p-115473473" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">substack.com/@savvascosti/p…

One of the reasons I've remained on twitter (yes I still call it that) is because people like @AJWTheology are active on it. I've just discovered he's on Substack, a much better platform! I can see myself using that more (with restrictions in place), and using this one less.

@SPCosti I’ll admit though: I have no idea how to use Substack.

I’ve had limited and appreciated interaction here with @SPCosti. Reading this fine essay, recognizing names of people whose works have influenced my own thinking, confirms that he’s a kindred spirit. This is indeed reading that matters. open.substack.com/pub/savvascost…
