Pitch count rules are tough when schools are able to move games up while others refuse hoping game gets postponed another day due to weather to give shot at pitcher being available both games. Just seems to create a not so level playing field!

@tomhatch4unc If students want to attend a school in a building with a physical address, then there must be an attendance policy in place that is sensible. Being able to miss 40+% of a class and pass is ridiculous. No accountability.If they want to be online students then grow the CCS virtual.

CCS came out with their NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY today! The email stated it is supposed to hold students accountable for attendance. Not much better than no policy at all like it has been for the past 6+ years. A high school student can miss 30 class periods in one class and pass.

@tomhatch4unc Absolutely agree. If students are going to a be STUDENTS IN A SCHOOL BUILDING then they must attend the school and have consequences to missing school. If they want to be students while not attending in person classes then they need to be a student at an ONLINE ACADEMY. NOT BOTH!

@tomhatch4unc Don’t disagree, but, you have to change it all then, which is probably what needs to happen. But, what you cannot continue to do is expect kids to come to school, tell them they need to come to school, they don’t come to school and then you reward that behavior. Doesn’t work!!!

@SPGIII The genie is out of the bottle and we can’t put it back. We have been doing education the same way for hundreds of years and now it’s all online…literally EVERYTHING. It’s time to rethink WHAT we teach, HOW we teach, and HOW we assess. This must be a national conversation.

@tomhatch4unc Education is no longer a PRIORITY in the eyes of the adults. Therefore, it isn’t a PRIORITY for a lot of students. Therefore evidence is in the attendance over the past 6+ years. I say it all the time. Kids haven’t changed. The adults have. What is allowed has.

@SPGIII The bigger issue is that a kid can sit @ home & do all of their work on Canvas. Why come to school & sit in class on my Chromebook doing work when I can chill & do it @ home. Our Board MUST examine the state requirements for seat time & translate this to policy with consequences!

@tomhatch4unc If missing 40% of the class and 20 missed class periods are unexcused and 10+ more with a “parent” note (what was sent today) then they should just be students with CCS Virtual Academy or NCVPS.

@tomhatch4unc Absolutely correct. You have policies in place that “urge” teachers to accept late work and then put other policies in place to allow work to be done on canvas and then kids can do the work and miss 40% of class & still pass because they want us to accept late work excused or not

Unless you’re being paid by a Major League Baseball team, nobody should be throwing a baseball right now.
