If you thought the utter meltdown of Oregon’s unemployment payments system during the pandemic would get the problem fixed, think again. oregonlive.com/business/2026/… This is the government. The government fails at almost anything it attempts. And when it does find a way to get something done, it's usually the most expensive way that takes too much time. 5 years after the pandemic, Oregon’s employment division admits most pink-slipped workers wait an hour simply to get someone to answer a phone call. And the joke gets worse when you hear the reports today that after a 5-month study of the problem, the agency came up with 101 different ideas for fixing it. They also did a survey of people who have had to run the gauntlet of the employment division after being laid off from a job. 18 percent say they’re completely satisfied with the job done by this agency…47 percent were “not at all satisfied”. My suggestion. Turn to the private sector. Dozens of companies handle payroll in the private sector. That solves the paying benefits side. As for finding jobs for out-of-work citizens, private sector companies do that too. And the best part, out here in the real world, you only get paid when you succeed. In the Oregon government, you can fail over and over again, and paychecks and raises just keep on coming…just ask the teachers.
