@brandonlay Where did time go? This was in Nowhere, Mississippi for the songwriter night. Now you need to write that song: Where Did Time Go 😉

Once upon a time, when I was attending college for mass communications, listing in groups of threes was a RULE we were taught to follow. For that reason, I have applied this rule as an educator, editor, and writer. You will find threes used in older articles, books, movies, sitcoms, songs... The list goes on. Keep listing in threes. This AI conversation about how to spot AI based on certain words, em dashes, lists of threes, and "it's not X, it's Y" is bs. AI generates stories utilizing these things for a reason. To let AI take over how we create as human beings is asinine. I refuse to let it dictate the way I edit and write.

@amykdebellis I feel you. I love using lists of threes because it works so well rhythmically, but lately I’ve been avoiding them more and more for fear of sounding anything like AI 😞

Editing my new short story. I keep rewriting all my sentences over and over again to make absolutely sure they don't sound like AI. I refuse to take out all my em-dashes, but every time I see an "it's not" or something similar, I break out into a cold sweat.

While it’s fun to interact and learn from fellow authors in this writing community, remember that readers are on Instagram. If you haven’t already, create an account and connect with book influencers, bloggers, and readers. Literary agents are on Instagram too! Let me know your handle and I will follow you there.

I've spent an entire day thinking I made great progress only to realize I wrote one small scene. Write the paragraph. Read it out loud. What made you stumble? What made you cringe? What was missing that you meant to convey? Don't delete the entire paragraph. Save it in a separate document. Open a new one and write again. Compare the two, three, four, or however many drafts it takes, and combine them to only include the content you loved about each one.

I've spent half the day staring at the same paragraph, trying to figure out why I don't like it. Tell me I'm normal.

@brandonlay We just left there this morning. The 40s hurt two nights ago on Broadway when we couldn't get an Uber at 330AM. 🤣

@brandonlay Well, you need to work on that. 😉 We brought our truck to Nashville and holy diesel. Expensive trip. Worth it, though. Let us know if you plan anything for Georgia or Alabama. We'll come to you if Jeff can get off.

@SDDonovan Running with my basic idea. It's kicking my butt, though. I am getting to the point I'll need to outline so I can connect all my random scenes. 🤦‍♀️ If only I could type as quickly as my mind generates ideas.

Do you outline your novels, or are you like me and get a basic idea and run with it, letting the characters take you on the journey?
