@jjbauer15 The Society was legally founded and then illegally suspended. Nonetheless, I think they’d argue that the state of necessity justifies their mission, much like if a suspended priest comes across a man dying on the side of the road and gives him the sacraments.

St. Francis de Sales lists two ways in which someone can authenticate their mission: 1. Ordinary, by the hierarchy — "The Church sent me and can be proven with my paperwork" 2. Extraordinary, by God — "God sent me and can be proven with miracles" Which does the SSPX provide?

@peregasolinus @thelb236 Our prior told us that Bp Fellay has traveled approximately 15x the distance between the earth and moon in the last 38 years. It is an incredibly hard life that wouldn’t be possible without a sincere desire to save souls.

@thelb236 The (moral) miracle could be despite a massive increase in work, they never added bishops from 1988-now, nor replaced Williamson or Tissier de Mallerais. Also, despite marginalization, they haven't strayed into heresy. Sects historically are not that disciplined or principled.

So many often say “the TLM is an issue only for a small percentage of Catholics” But remember, by that same logic, so is the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist

@HailPopePXII @FlatCath I think you hit the nail on the head. Why does his channel need to exist? You can find much better podcasts elsewhere. He’s also dead wrong on the SSPX.

@poperespecter1 @TheWMReview Regardless, I am much more bothered by: religious liberty, ecumenism, collegiality, DP update in catechism, Assisi, Abu Dhabi, AL, FS, and the NOM.

@poperespecter1 @TheWMReview 3) Irrelevant - this is like saying because I brought incense, myrrh and the golden calf, the golden calf isn’t an idol anymore 4) Doesn’t matter - they can hide idolatry under the veil of Catholicism. This is a trick other sects have used, eg Santeria

Cope Deflector, a hatchling that was born yesterday and understands nothing about modernists, wants to tell us what to think – but hasn't read Pascendi. "In their books you find some things which might well be expressed by a Catholic, but in the next page you find other things which might have been dictated by a rationalist." wmreview.org/p/excuse-error

@TheWMReview @sitsio Only in the sense that there should have been no confusion over the first pachamama hoax.

There are Catholics who pretty much think that whenever a pope like Francis says something horrible you’re supposed to make yourself retarded, ignore all rational commitments that got you to Catholicism in the first place, and become a practical fideist.

@HilarityjaneArt Fr Gleize’s position is, I believe, that prior to the reforms canonizations were infallible. But with the changes they no longer are. I don’t know enough of the details though. Seems absurd that Paul VI was canonized of course.

@LMSChairman Yes. There is also the issue of the weakening of the process under JP2. Paul VI’s supposed miracles, for example, are highly dubious to me.

This is serious. Catholics who want to be orthodox have got to drop this nonsense about canonizations being infallible. Is the heroic virtue of Escriva part of the Deposit of Faith? Get a grip.
Forty Days@fortyhigh

@pluant God forbid we end up with a spectacular counter-example and the rigid insistence on infallibility leads souls to apostasy! Can you imagine if Maciel had died in the late 90's and been rushed through in the last years of JPII?

@JustinusRomanus Fr Cekada’s Work of Human Hands covers a lot of the details around the GIRM (and the rest of the NOM) in great detail. Great read. Unfortunately it can be hard to find outside of sede publishers

Darrell Wright-Eclipse of the Church began in 1958@rosaryknight

The official definition of the Mass of Paul VI: "The Lord's Supper or Mass is a sacred meeting or assembly of the People of God, met together under the presidency of the priest, to celebrate the memorial of the Lord. Thus the promise of Christ, "where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them", is eminently true of the local community in the Church (Mt. 18: 20)". See "The Ottaviani Intervention" and its serious objections, which should be ours as well. lms.org.uk/ottaviani-inte… 'The definition of the Mass is thus limited to that of the "supper", and this term is found constantly repeated (nos. 8, 48, 55d, 56). This supper is further characterised as an assembly presided over by the priest and held as a memorial of the Lord, recalling what He did on the first Maundy Thursday. None of this in the very least implies either the Real Presence, or the reality of sacrifice, or the Sacramental function of the consecrating priest, or the intrinsic value of the Eucharistic Sacrifice independently of the people's presence.'

@TheWMReview What’s even more amazing is that the traditionalist position in this clip is summed up as supporting the “based” thing and opposing the “cringe” thing. I’m sure the full video covers it, but it seems quite dishonest that not one mention of doctrine or heresy is presented here.

@sitsio @FrancisDePaul1 Key word is “again.” The only parts of V2 that are infallible are those parts that reiterate prior teaching. The council was pastoral, as stressed by Paul VI and John XXIII, so it just served to present existing doctrine in a way suitable for the times.

@sitsio Not true, because those statements were not protected by infallibility. It is certainly a scandal, and a massive one at that, but it is not impossible for an ecumenical council to teach error. I still cannot reconcile parts of DH with tradition, and yes, I have read Pink.

What advice would you give to some Catholics who have lost faith in bishops? Because these bishops act as anti-Catholic agents at a deep level.

@sitsio I think, sadly for you, that nobody cares about the niceties of these arguments anymore. The People of God are turning away from their false shepherds. No more Clown Masses. No more gay theology. No more kid-touching. No more chasing straights out of seminaries. No more.
