⚽️ Pitch Width ⚽️ Using @SSPlanner Today’s session focused on spatial awareness and patient build-up through a conditioned 8v8 Small-Sided Game (SSG). By splitting the pitch into thirds and enforcing specific positional constraints, we’re challenging our players to think two steps ahead. 🛠 The Setup 8v8 (including GKs) Pitch Layout: Divided into three thirds across the pitch 2 wide areas and a central area. Constraints - Attacking Team: Must maintain presence in all 3 thirds to ensure width and depth. Defending Team: Free movement to press or drop deep. 🎯 Coaching Objectives We aren't just looking for goals; we’re looking for the process. This drill forces players to: Stretch the Opposition: By keeping players in every third, the attacking team prevents the defense from bunching up. Avoid "Route One": The 2-zone rule eliminates the long-ball-and-hope strategy, requiring tactical transitions through the thirds. Recognize Overloads: Since defenders can go anywhere, attackers must identify where the space is and move the ball quickly to exploit it. #Coaching #Academy #Development #Session #Training

Warm up: Pass & Rotate Circle: - Do they see the next action? Created via @SSPlanner Organisation • One cone or small central area in the middle • Circle approx. 20 yards wide • Players evenly spaced around the outside • 1 ball in play Set up: • One player starts centrally • Remaining players positioned around the outside edge Objective: ⇢ Develop passing accuracy, movement timing, and receiving on the move. Practice: • Central player receives a pass from outside. • Central player passes to a new outside player. • Central player rejoins the outside circle. • The outside passer becomes the new central player. • Pattern continues around the circle. Progression 1: Increase Passing Distance ⇢ Expand the circle size. Forces: • Firmer passing • Greater receiving preparation • Longer passing mechanics Progression 2: Reduce Space ⇢ Shrink the circle. Creates: • Faster tempo • Less time to receive • Increased scanning demand Progression 3: One-Touch Challenge ⇢ Central player attempts: • One-touch set • Or directional first touch before release • Participation Adaptation To avoid waiting: • Duplicate circles • Use smaller groups • Add additional balls for advanced groups Gamified Scoring (Optional) • Team challenge: • Consecutive passes without error • Time challenge for successful rotations Teaching the “Why” Read the Picture ⇢ “Where is the next pass before the ball arrives?” Purpose in the Action ⇢ “Does your pass help the next player?” Change the Rhythm ⇢ “When do you slow to receive?” ⇢ “When do you speed the tempo up?” View session via @SSPlanner lnk2ssp.com/s/i1faj/i/IoxO… Website: thesportingresource.co.uk

Technical Practice | Overlap or Underlap @SundayShare10 #SundayShare 📌 2 player connections, the overlap or underlap. 🧱 Set-Up: ➡️ Set up a central diamond with cones, then place two coned gates at the top and bottom of the central diamond. 👕Teams: ⚫️’s unopposed.
🧩 How to Play: ▶️ Players work through 2 different combinations. ▶️ Combo 1: Overlap: Pass to the wide player who dribbles inside, central player overlaps to receive a through ball. ▶️ Combo 2: Underlap: Pass to the wide player who turn out using back foot, central player underlaps and receives a through ball. 🚧 Constraints: 🏆 Reward: Best performing player gets a 1-0 head start for any game elements of the session. 👨‍🏫 Review: Timing of the pass and timing of the run. 🚫 Restriction: Add offsides for the runner to enforce good timing. 4v4 Turn & Escape Games - Can they turn with purpose? Created via @SSPlanner Organisation • Two pitches, each 30x20 • Goals on each end line • 4 teams of 4 players • 4v4 on each pitch Format: • 4 x 3-minute games • Teams rotate after each round • Keep cumulative score across all games Objective In Possession: ⇢ Use turns and body movement to escape pressure, create passing lanes, or create space to shoot. Out of Possession: ⇢ Apply pressure quickly and deny forward options. Practice: • Free 4v4 game play • Minimal stoppages Coach reinforces moments where players: • Escape pressure • Turn effectively • Manipulate defenders before passing or shooting Progression 1: Directional Bonus ⇢ Goals scored after a successful turn count double Encourages: • Bravery under pressure • Turning with purpose Progression 2: Restricted Escape Zones ⇢ Players can only score after: • Turning into space or escaping pressure into a new zone/channel • Forces recognition before attack. Progression 3: Limited Touches Under No Pressure ⇢ If a player is unopposed: Maximum 2 touches ⇢ If under pressure: • Unlimited touches Gamified Scoring • Standard goal = 1 point • Goal after successful turn = 2 points • Bonus for split pass after turning Teaching the “Why” Read the Picture ⇢ “Where is the pressure coming from?” ⇢ “Which way is the defender trying to force you?” Purpose in the Action ⇢ “Are you turning to escape or just spinning?” Every turn should create: • Space • Time • Or a new angle Change the Rhythm ⇢ “When do you protect slowly?” ⇢ “When do you explode away?”

Find a Way Out - Why can't they escape? Created via @SSPlanner Organisation • Area: Circle approx. 25-yard diameter • Approx. 8 gates positioned around the outside edge • Minimum 6 players (increase based on space) • 1 ball in play Set up: • One player starts inside the circle with the ball All remaining players position themselves around the outside as defenders Objective Central Player: ⇢ Dribble, scan, and escape through an open gate under pressure. Outside Players: ⇢ React quickly to block gates and deny escape routes. Practice: • Central player dribbles freely inside the circle. • Outside players move laterally around the edge to close gates. • Central player attempts to escape through any open gate. If successful: ⇢ Closest defender becomes the new central player Repeat continuously. Progression 1: Area Adjustment ◍ Reduce circle size = less time and space ◍ Increase gates = more scanning decisions ◍ Fewer gates = more pressure Progression 2: Skill Restriction Central player limited to: ◍ Specific turns ◍ Specific foot ◍ Assigned moves Progression 3: Time Challenge Player must escape within: ◍ 5–8 seconds Gamified Scoring • 1 point for successful escape • Bonus for escaping without stopping the ball • Defender earns point for delaying beyond time limit Teaching the “Why” Read the Picture ⇢ “Which gate is opening?” ⇢ “What movement made the defender shift?” Purpose in the Action ⇢ “Are you attacking space or reacting late?” Change the Rhythm ⇢ “When do you slow to disguise?” “When do you explode to escape?” **Day 7 of 31
