TBH, this is sickening. I spent 5 years doing cutting-edge research, earned a PhD, and then worked 3 years on critical infrastructure projects. I did exactly what the system claims to value. Yet a blanket policy pause didn’t just hit me, it sidelined thousands of scientists, researchers, and students, many far more accomplished than I am. So how can anyone claim these policies “prioritize beneficial immigrants”? You don’t prioritize talent by treating everyone the same. You don’t attract innovation by shutting the door indiscriminately. And you don’t build credibility by saying one thing while doing the opposite. If the goal is truly to support high-impact, high-skilled individuals, then policies need to reflect that, with nuance, precision, and consistency. Otherwise, let’s be honest, this isn’t about prioritizing the best. It’s about convenience, optics, and broad stroke decisions that ignore real human capital.
