EXCLUSIVE: @SenRickScott is urging the WH to end the Optional Practical Training program, which incentivizes employers to give jobs to foreign students. "The OPT program should not exist; it is a purely regulatory creation with no statutory basis," he wrote. @DailySignal

@NedaSa_ @MercuryParsi In reality, employers take on the added complexity of hiring international candidates only when there is distinct expertise or advanced specialization they genuinely need. It’s about skills, not preference. #USCISPause #LiftTheHold

Many employers actually avoid hiring OPT and non-citizens because of regulatory complexity and uncertainty. In reality, this often makes it harder, not easier, for international graduates (in high level like phd) to compete with American workers and citizens 🧵 # 3

@SenEricSchmitt : Senator, Many OPT roles are in research and engineering. these are skilled positions. Skilled immigrants often create jobs rather than replace them, and they help fill real gaps in STEM, healthcare, research, academia, and industry. 🧵# 1

Update in my fight to dismantle the broken OPT system—ICE just got me the numbers: In Missouri alone there are 4,430 OPT visas—many working in jobs that are out-of-scope, stealing opportunities from young Missourians. Here are some of the worst examples.🧵

I understand the need for extended vetting, but I don’t understand why #EADs remain on #pause. Adjudicating EADs would give people stability and allow them to keep supporting the communities they serve while vetting continues. #LiftTheHold @LindseyGrahamSC @SecMullinDHS

Sir, #USCISPause is leaving Iranian professionals in lawful status without adjudication, forcing loss of work authorization despite full compliance. This is impacting physicians, researchers, and engineers—disrupting healthcare, research, and U.S. innovation. We respectfully ask for your attention and action. #LiftTheHold

The math isn’t adding up in our medical schools. We have the residency spots, but we’re blocking U.S. students from filling them while educating a quarter of our workforce from abroad. Why is the system set up this way?

@NemotheAli I see how much the U.S. depends on skilled professionals across fields, including healthcare. Current immigration policies are sidelining talent we urgently need. With respect,a more balanced and compassionate approach would better serve our communities. #USCISPause #LiftTheHold

@SenEricSchmitt With respect, PhD-level roles and college graduate roles are fundamentally different. Positions like Applied Scientist Level 5 or 6 require years of advanced research and experience—these aren’t entry-level jobs for college graduates.

For example, Vitendo4Africa filed for an OPT and runs programs that: - Offer classes on green card applications, refugee resettlement and US elections. - Help employers to solicit newly arrived refugees.

@IngrahamAngle With respect,College graduates and PhD-level professionals don’t compete for the same roles. Limiting opportunities for skilled international talent doesn’t solve job challenges for American grads—it weakens the system that drives innovation and growth. #LiftTheHold #USCISPause

The U.S. needs a clear distinction between legal immigration processes and undocumented status. Conflating them leads to unfair outcomes and loss of critical talent. #USCISPause #LiftTheHold

We thank @ACPIMPhysicians for standing up and advocating for the thousands of physicians affected by the USCIS pause. Since December, US-trained doctors born in 39 designated countries have effectively been blocked from every legal pathway to remain lawfully in the US and continue caring for patients: no visa extensions, no work permits, no green cards, and no path to citizenship, despite doing everything right and giving years of service to the US healthcare system. These are not new applicants trying to enter the system. They are doctors already here who completed residency and fellowship in the US, are board-certified in their primary specialty, and are already caring for American patients. Many serve in rural and underserved communities, where losing even one physician can be devastating. After years of training and service, their careers are being brought to a halt for one reason alone: their country of birth. Yet almost no one knows this is happening. Media coverage has been minimal, and organizational advocacy has been scarce. ACP was among the first to recognize the gravity of this issue. This is not just an immigration matter. It is a patient care crisis unfolding in plain sight. @ACPIMPhysicians @AmerMedicalAssn @Cardiology @Cardiology @AANmember @AAMCtoday @ProjectImg @ReichlinMelnick acponline.org/sites/default/…

we should support those who follow the rules and contribute through education and hard work. Many legal immigrants are being impacted despite doing everything right. Can we truly build strength while denying or pausing opportunity for them? #USCISPause #LiftTheHold

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: Physicians are being sidelined. Patients are paying the price. A coalition of major U.S. medical organizations is sounding the alarm on visa delays and administrative holds affecting international medical graduates (IMGs). 📉 The impact is real: 🔹 23% of U.S. physicians are foreign-trained 🔹 64% serve in underserved areas 🔹 21 million Americans rely on them for care Yet, prolonged visa processing and adjudication delays are: ❌ Forcing physicians out of training programs ❌ Disrupting patient care ❌ Worsening the physician shortage ❌ Hurting rural and underserved communities the most 🩺 These are not just immigration issues, they are public health crises. 📢 The ask is clear: ✅ Expedite physician visa processing ✅ Create national interest exemptions ✅ End unnecessary administrative delays America cannot afford to lose doctors to bureaucracy. Happy to be back in Boston—or rather, Cambridge, MA. A special place for me. I lived here for five years more than three decades ago, and I’ve kept coming back ever since. This time I'm here for a series of well-organized events led by active, smart and motivated students, with a very high level of attendance from speakers and the public. Congrats to the VII Brazil Legal Symposium and the Brasil Project organizers!
