That’s what years of gaslighting and brainwashing through “Pakistan Studies” can do to your brain. But no amount of spin can change the fact that Takshashila University was a Vedic/Buddhist center of learning that flourished from around the 6th century BCE. It is prominently mentioned, along with the province of Gandhara, in Sanskrit epics such as the Mahabharata and in Buddhist literature (the princess of Gandhara province was the Queen Mother of Hastinapur (present day Delhi) in the epic narrative of the Mahabharata). By the time the Achaemenid Empire emerged in ancient Persia (6th to 5th century BC), Takshashila University was already a renowned center of learning. The Greeks came much later in 323 BC. Anyway, good day to you.

@STCLEMSON3 @SamDalrymple123 Taxila was part of Gandhara civilization that flourished during the eras of Achaemenid Persians, Greeks, Mauryans and finally Kushans. All hailing from different origins and belief systems. Painting them with hindutva brush is an insult to the legacy and the name of Taxila.

Where the Language of the Gods entered the World of Men For a Sanskrit nerd like me, Taxila is the coolest place possible. The oldest ruins date from around 1000BC, and it's mentioned in the Mahabharata.

There is a very sinister motive behind all Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states suddenly issuing strictures against Muslims of India and their customs and traditions. The Goal of vilifying Dalits and Adivasis by the Hindutva Ecosystem suddenly finds Muslims of India as their favourite Punching bag. Is it to divert the serious Economic and Energy crisis that India under Modi is witnessing. Or is it only the Hindutva project under operation ? Only time will tell .

VIDEO | Dehradun: “We will not allow namaz on roads in Devbhoomi, no one is above the law”, says Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken a strict stand on offering namaz on roads in Uttarakhand, stating clearly that public roads in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand will not be allowed to be obstructed through religious activities at any cost. He said that while everyone’s faith is respected, no one can be above the law and order system. (Source: Third Party) (Full video available on PTI Videos - ptivideos.com)

That may be so. But, and you may be unaware of this, Takshashila (along with Nalanda, Vikramshila etc.) appear in many Indian vernacular historical fiction and nonfiction works, and even in southern languages or in faraway Bengali, it is always referred as Takshashila. So the original Sanskrit name is far from extinct and very much alive in India. The University at Takshashila and its famous teachers and alumni such as Panini, Kautilya, and Charaka are almost household names in India. Therefore, at least from an Indian point of view, and given that it was a Vedic/Buddhist center of learning whose medium of instruction was almost certainly Sanskrit (Panini, Chanakya, and Charaka all wrote in Sanskrit), it is only proper that the original name be introduced at least once, even if one later transitions to the more commonly used local name or Greek transliteration for mass consumption. Anyway, thank you very much for your interest in ancient Indian history and for your kind consideration.

Its ٹيکسلا (teksila) in local Punjabi and Urdu, and thats how its called in thr 21st century... Its a bit like how no one called Patna Pataliputra anymore, or London Londinium. Its different in different languages of course, just like Delhi becomes दिल्ली (Dilli) in Hindi and دهلی (Dehli) in Urdu... Takshashila is still how its called in Sanskrit and many Indian languages, but in the local area its very much called Taksila...

Even in ancient times? Do you think Panini, the world’s first grammarian and phonetician, who wrote the first classical Sanskrit grammar, whose sophistication was matched only by works appearing nearly 2,000 years later in modern times, and who studied and later taught at Takshashila University alongside other legendary figures of ancient Indian scholarship, including Chanakya (Kautilya), the master political strategist, and Charaka, the foundational Ayurvedic physician, also called it “Taxila” instead of its Sanskrit name, Takshashila? Pakistan may occupy parts of ancient Bharatavarsha and some of its great centers of learning today, but going by your post, sadly it is clear that many Pakistanis really have no idea what they are occupying or what they are talking about.

@SamDalrymple123 @STCLEMSON3 In local language it’s always been called “Taxila” even in ancient times. It is just an Indian habit of poking their nose in everything and saffronising the relics of archeological remains wherever they are found in South Asia.

No, bigot, the Chuknagar massacre was a massacre of Bengali Hindus by the Pakistani Army in collaboration with local Jamaati and Ansar collaborators. It is regarded as one of the largest communal massacres of the 20th century, and is compared in scale and brutality to atrocities such as the Srebrenica massacre in the former Yugoslavia.

> K V Hedgewar the founder of RSS, announced Golwalkar would be the next general secretary of RSS in 1939. Golwalkar reinforced the organisation's isolation from the Independence Movement. Golwalkar criticized anti- British nationalism. He complied with British regulations during World War 2, even disbanding the RSS's military department to avoid any conflict with the colonial government. The Britishers saw the RSS as 'Non - Threatening' organization and the Bombay Government appreciated the RSS by noting that the Sangh had scrupulously kept itself within the law and order and refrained from taking part in the disturbance (Quit India Movement) that broke out in August 1942.

A long time ago Hargobind Khurana won a Nobel Prize and the newspapers then screamed about an Indian winning the prize. Khurana said in response that he was no longer Indian but American. Vivek Ramaswamy running for Governor of Ohio is not Indian. Indian names may have gone global, but Citizenship of India restricts you to the subcontinent

@sanjayuvacha That's a lie. A simple Google search would have told you that Har Govind Khorana never denied his Indian roots. He in fact retained strong intellectual and institutional links with India throughout his life, and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1969.

India calls America out for Trump’s racist comments and Rubio calls Americans stupid. President Trump amplified a post last month referring to India as a “hellhole.” So when Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited New Delhi, he was confronted directly about remarks viewed as offensive toward Indians coming from the United States. Rubio responded: “Every country in the world has stupid people who say dumb things.” The State Department initially posted the exchange online, but later removed it after people pointed out that Rubio’s answer appeared to indirectly characterize Trump’s comments as “dumb.”

Polygamy, triple talaq, child marriage, women’s witness being considered half as important as men’s, rape having required corroboration by 4 witnesses, the husband’s right to “beat wives gently”, non-recognition of marital ra*pe, etc., are some evidences of Islam oppressing women. To some extent all religions oppress women, but Islam has been far more resistant to modernization from a 7th century value system.

Islam gave women rights to inheritance, property ownership, financial independence, consent in marriage and divorce 1400 years ago. Meanwhile, much of the world was still treating women like property. Can someone explain why people keep saying Islam "oppresses women"?

Ha ha, no, Taj Mahal is indeed unique, but India has so many other beauties, some older than Islam itself. But many of them, especially in the north, like Martand (Sun) temple in Kashmir, were destroyed and converted to mosques. Only a few have survived. Like this Jain temple in Delwara that dates back to eleventh century.

Claiming to be 5000 year-old civilization yet having no monument of note to showcase to foreign visitors shows how fake this ‘ancient advanced civilization’ narrative is. Indian civilization truly began under Muslim rule and stagnated after the British withdrawal.

In 1950 there was no "Pakistani milutary action". But in that year in Anderson (Bhairab) Bridge massacre, Jamaatis stopped several trains on Anderson (Bhairab) bridge, identified the Hindus, killed them by slitting their throats and threw the bodies to the river below. Jamaatis/ Ansars killed 3000 Hindus that day in Bangladesh. Google it.
