Another aspect that I’m surprised no one has noticed yet is how journalism failed here. An Indian journalist, @sidhant, can’t even name the person he was hinting at. Just a few days ago, there was a hue and cry over Helle Lyng’s comments on press freedom in India, and now a journalist in his own country can’t name the U.S. president. This is reflective of the fact that we have no press freedom. Also, the journalist is from Godi media and is so conditioned that he can’t even name Trump as it would make his masters in India very angry. So, there it is.

In 1950 there was no "Pakistani milutary action". But in that year in Anderson (Bhairab) Bridge massacre, Jamaatis stopped several trains on Anderson (Bhairab) bridge, identified the Hindus, killed them by slitting their throats and threw the bodies to the river below. Jamaatis/ Ansars killed 3000 Hindus that day in Bangladesh. Google it.

The Assam Uniform Civil Code is not uniform at all. It completely exempts tribal communities from UCC’s coverage. Every community has the right to protect its culture under Article 29, but why is only the tribals’ autonomy being protected? This is the imposition of a law that no one wants. The constituent assembly did not envision a mandatory UCC. In Islam, no one can exclude an heir from inheritance. No one can write a will to give their whole property to one son or deny their daughter inheritance. This UCC allows anyone to write a will and deny their daughters their fair share. This is far from a gender just law.

And remember several Hundreds of Thousands Hindu Bengalis were killed, and 15 million Bengali Hindus had to flee to India. That is what discrimination and religious persecution looked like in Bangladesh. Now compare that with restrictions on open namaz and open slaughter of animals that Indian Bengal is imposing on Bengali Muslims. It's absolutely nothing. I hope they follow it through by also banning child marriage, polygamy, and cousin marriage among Muslims.

By contrast, not a single Muslim has had to flee the Indian part of Bengal since 1964. But since you clearly have no idea what really happened in East Pakistan or Bangladesh, events that even many decent Bangladeshis acknowledge, and that the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s saw systematic massacres of Hindu Bengalis leading to millions fleeing their homeland, I can only pity your wilful ignorance and your complicity in denying the large-scale deaths of Hindu Bengalis, numbering SEVERAL HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS. Chuknagar massacre whose anniversary was just a few days ago (May 20) had 10000 (ten thousand) Bengali Hindus summarily executed. There were many like them. In Anderson/ Bhairab Bridge massacre of 1950, trains were stopped on the Bridge, Hindus were identified, their throats slit and bodies were thrown to the river. About 3000 Hindus were killed in this manner. Google them, and stop bothering me.

No, not a “Bangladesh formation catastrophe.” Bengali Hindus were subjected to large-scale massacres in the 1950s, 1960s, and again in the early 1970s. Even before 1971, millions of Bengali Hindus had to already migrate to India from East Pakistan, with another massive wave during the 1971 war. Many of these atrocities were carried out by ordinary Jamaatis, Ansars, and others in East Pakistan. My whole point is this: restrictions on open animal slaughter or preventing public roads from being blocked for prayers are not discrimination. Real discrimination is what Bengali Hindus endured in East Pakistan/Bangladesh, where hundreds of thousands were killed and 15 million were forced to flee their homeland. In fact, I hope the government of India next abolishes Sharia-based Muslim personal laws and eliminates practices such as polygamy and child marriage, just as triple talaq was abolished. Removing these religion-based legal exceptions that no non-Muslim-majority country provides is not discrimination; it is just part and parcel of civilization.

What Bengali Hindus had to endure in East Pakistan/Bangladesh cannot be compared with what Muslims experience in India. Several hundreds of thousands Bengali Hindus were killed in East Pakistan/Bangladesh, and around 15 million had to flee to the Indian part of Bengal (not including those who moved in 1947). Is there anything comparable that has happened to Muslims in India? How many millions have fled to Pakistan or Bangladesh after 1947?
