Personally, I LOVE the “O’Kyrie” pick! As much as I like Cameron Carr, I look at it like this: if Cade Cunningham goes down, does Carr’s game still hold up? We just played 14 playoff games across two rounds, and one of our biggest issues was creating offense outside of Cade Cunningham and, to a lesser extent, Daniss Jenkins. Despite playing elite defense, we struggled to consistently generate quality looks in the half-court. That’s ultimately what cost us. When teams loaded up on Cade, we didn’t have enough players who could simply say, “Give me the ball and I’ll create something.” but Okorie projects as exactly that type of player. Carr would bring shooting and floor spacing, which absolutely has value. But until he develops a tighter handle and stronger shot creation skills, he’d still be somewhat dependent on Cade to create advantages for him. That doesn’t truly maximize players like Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren, even if it helps stretch the floor. What Detroit needed was a player with elite upside as a ball handler and shot creator, and Ebuka Okorie brings exactly that. Pair that with a high basketball IQ, a relentless motor, and a gritty, never-say-die mentality, and I think he’s a perfect fit for what this team is building. His ability to put pressure on the rim is very real, and that’s a skill that translates to every level of basketball. The deeper you get into the playoffs, the less easy offense exists. Defenses take away actions. They take away sets. Eventually, somebody has to create a shot. That’s why shot creators get paid and why they’re some of the hardest players to find in basketball. Detroit already has defenders. Detroit already has athletes. Detroit already has finishers. What they don’t have enough of is players who can consistently create offense off the dribble. That’s why I believe Okorie fills a much bigger need than many fans realize. Yes, he’s a 6’2” guard. You know who else is 6’2”? NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, Tyrese Maxey, and Kyrie Irving. Nobody would complain about pairing any of those players next to Cade Cunningham. In fact, most would call it overkill. Meanwhile, Carr stands 6’5”, but his official weight was only two pounds lighter than Okorie. Sure, he might fill out, but that’s something you have to wait on. Size alone doesn’t make up for the difference in self-creation between the two. Carr has shown flashes, but he’s still inconsistent creating separation, creating off the bounce, and making plays for others. Also, let’s be clear: Okorie is NOT Marcus Sasser! I like Sasser! Sasser has a very good handle, but he often struggles with timing. He doesn’t always recognize the moment to attack and blow by his defender. Too often he settles into his step-back tendencies. The ideas are there, but the hesitation hurts him. Okorie is different. That boy GOES FOR IT! He attacks. He pressures defenses. He plays downhill. His bag is deeper, his creativity is better, and he’s far more aggressive at forcing defenses to react. Could Cameron Carr eventually become the better player? Sure. But based on what Detroit needed most, I believe Ebuka “O’Kyrie” Okorie was the right pick. For me, this wasn’t a luxury pick. It was a need pick. Detroit needed another creator, another pressure point, and another player capable of generating offense when everything breaks down. That’s why I’m all in on “O’Kyrie”. With that said, this is what I’d say his draft profile would look like compared to his peers as 2K26 Draft Badges… - @PistonBroncoRuc
