@KevinConnelly24 We did not come close to replacing Richmond's talent at point guard! That's the primary reason we are in this position. #sjubb

On paper, St. John's replaced the talent of Kadary Richmond and RJ Luis but they didn't replace their killer mentality The Red Storm are still searching for someone to be a 'stopper' next to Zuby Ejiofor and until that changes, things could be dark #SJUBB stormthepaint.com/something-must…

Last year, around 5500 STH/MSG plan holders. Goal is to double that number by the end of the summer. Right now, we are 1,250 new season ticket deposits since season end. My point was, no matter how many new, they will not jump ahead of a current STH.
Hoops Fan@STJhoopsfan

@EdKullStJohnsAD @NYPost_Brazille Are you saying that SJU has 5,500 ADDITIONAL season ticket holders this year? If so, that is a major story.

@joesquawk @howardlutnick Joe- Thank you for correcting your “expert” panelist @AngelaHanks, after she stated that both the President and Commerce Secty were “predicting a recession”. Such nonsense! Surely CNBC can find more qualified guests?!

@LPDonovan @aoxamaxoa They needed to do a real primary and field someone who could credibly distance themselves from the Biden admin. It's all on Biden (and his wife) that they didn't.

@CompanyUser123 @LPDonovan If Trump can get to 48.8 against Scranton Joe, then he can easily get over 50 against a San Francisco liberal. Just my opinion.

The polling creep continues, irrespective of methodology, such that now all four of the averages I've been tracking point narrowly to Trump. (NYT still shows a <1pt tipping point edge for Harris, WaPo is in its own in seeing a 2pt lead throughout the Rust Belt.)
Liam P. Donovan tweet media

I don't pay much attention to the day to day poll drops, but I update this matrix weekly, and for the first time it's not just RCP on an island. No matter your methodology, weighting, or criteria for inclusion, the marginal movement is small but consistent.

@LPDonovan @CompanyUser123 But Trump got 48.8 in PA in 2020 and if Gary Johnson hadn't been running in 2016, he would have topped 49. So is it really that much of a stretch for him to get there now?

State polls should be the focus, with national numbers just framing up our understanding. But both are sufficiently close that they probably can't tell us much more than 🤷🏻‍♂️. Harris' edge isn't about polling, it's about structure--to win, Trump has to do something he has never done before: win 49+ in the rust belt.

@CliffordAsness Read the comments, they are even scarier. The majority are in favor of her plan, and these are NYT subscribers, a typically well educated demographic.

This is the “journalists” at the NYT effort to be balanced. They say, please read the article, that whether Harris’s plan is valid is “complicated.” It is not complicated. It is economic illiteracy. Worse, it is callous politically driven economic destruction. And we have a Republican nominee who can’t explain why, and whose response will be to offer up his own asinine plans. nytimes.com/2024/08/15/bus…

@LPDonovan I understand what you're saying, but now Walz has been caught (by CNN no less) falsely blaming his DUI arrest on his National Guard service! At some point, do his negatives really start to stick with voters? Or this actually good for Harris, in terms of distracting from her?

If you're still talking about Tim Walz's bio this week instead of Kamala Harris' record you've lost the plot, badly, and taking your audience with you.
Hugh Hewitt@hughhewitt

The Walz fiasco gets worse and worse for the Harris campaign and of course they would choose a do-over if they had one but they don’t because they are busy trying to erase literally every policy position that the @VP has taken over her two decades of public life. (If she ever wrote a word for the Howard or Hastings newspapers, I’ve not seen it.) They can’t swap out running mates when it was her first (and only) big decision. So they are going to press on with the epic makeover. Can the giant con job work? Legacy media is cooperating, indeed the Manhattan-Beltway media elite are complicit in this giant con, just as the dead-ender Never Trumpers have obliged themselves to be. But does it really work in PA, MI and WI? Does the “I’m for no taxes on tips” really sell NV or promises of border enforcement (this time she really rest means it) work in AZ? I doubt it. I think voters are smart even if they routinely skip the political news of the days. One example: Does any true friend of Israel think Harris would be other than the worst president for the Jewish State in its 76 year history? Do Pennsylvania voters actually believe that climate-crisis-true-believer like the VP has really changed her mind on a total ban on fracking? “There’s a sucker born every minute” may be true, but the grocery store cart is Trump’s friend because every single American knows what groceries (and gas) cost. And they know that a Harris presidency will cause those prices to rise and rise again and the border to grow even more porous than it already is (which is hard to imagine but true.) “Trust the people” was Churchill’s mantra. They cannot fall for this. Right?

@LPDonovan Well not sure why they picked him? If they just wanted a happy warrior/cheerleader, they should have picked Kelly, whose credentials were far more impressive.

Whatever the merits, the challenge for breaking the Walz military stuff out of the conservative media ghetto beyond a few fact check-style dismissals is that you need mainstream outlets and/or the campaign itself to seriously engage with it. Neither seem likely post-SBVFT.

@LPDonovan The "weird" label they so love is going to come back to bite him and Harris with white, working-class voters, as Thomas Friedman said the other day.

@LPDonovan Shapiro gets way too much credit for defeating a complete nut job of a candidate in Mastriano. Anyone would have beaten him. Kelly has a far more compelling resume for swing voters, IMO, and is tough on the border (for a D).

The idea that the Obamas were somehow a dead-end holdouts on Kamala Harris never made any sense when the only reason political junkies outside of CA knew her name was that Barack famously shouted her out as his favorite AG (and got in some trouble for it.)

The poll-driven argument for Biden to drop is mostly a red herring. They were not good before the debate, and they're not good now; but that's been the case for the past ~9 months. The difference is Dems' faith in Biden's capacity to run through the tape.

@LPDonovan Not the only path- the other path to vindication is for him to drop out and his successor win. He'd get tons of credit for that.

One wrinkle I don't think has been captured in a satisfying way: Dems are painting a potential Biden exit as a heroic/selfless act, but there's no absolution to getting out at this point; he'd still be blamed for a Harris loss, eg. The only path to vindication is to run and win.
