@poe_collector A properly programmed and prompted AI is capable of having a Socratic dialogue with a student. it’s the expectations around and use of AI that’s the problem. One good solution to the problem of AI and homework is to make the homework a submitted dialogue between AI and student.

Without question, this is one of the worst things I’ve read online in a while… I wish I could say don’t read it, but you really need to. I’m so tired of watching our labor be used to create horrifying conditions for humanity for the perverse enrichment of a handful of billionaires.

I need examples of a US city with at least three pro sports teams where the NHL team is top two in fandom in the city. Boys here said Detroit, DC and Tampa. I think I’ll give them DC and Tampa, but contest Detroit. Some guys said Minnesota, I think Twins are bigger than Wild.

@johnarnold Hmmmm, I have access to this, and it has zero Impact on my life. We need to stop blaming the tools or stores for the decisions we make. There is no “addiction”, it’s a choice, making every bad habit an addiction means “it’s not my fault” is crazy

@AA_Millsap @johnarnold It’s just decriminalization. No one should go to jail for gambling or running gambling events. I shouldn’t see gambling sponsorships on sports jerseys. We can quibble about specifics but the eye of this needle is actually pretty damn wide.

Im concerned about the negative impacts gambling has on people and communities. I also dislike putting people in prison for gambling, especially people who do it responsibly as a minor thrill. I’d love to make excessive gambling taboo while not going back to putting a bunch of harmless people in jail. I know that’s a tough needle to thread.

@climatepaige @Aella_Girl The pursuit doesn’t have to be ‘active!’ Consider if you’re poly the vast majority of people you meet in your everyday life are monogamous. If you hit it off with a cute girl at the coffee shop, she’s probably monogamous He should still be truthful, of course.

Okok but why is he actively pursuing the monogamous woman at all? There are many poly women he could try to date. By the nature of being poly, none of them are really taken. (Not like there’s any shortage of women who want to do this!) There must be a reason why he’s aggressively going after someone who does not share his professed sexuality! I used to think maybe it was because monogamous women are more physically attractive, but that’s not quite right. (I’ve now met / talked to quite a few for show research, and they’re all pretty cute!) Maybe it’s because he likes being someone’s “one and only” while he gets to screw other poly women! I really think many of these supposedly poly men, when they decide to start families, will end up with monogamous women. I wouldn’t put it past them to totally hide their dating history once they’ve decided they’ve had enough of the scene. After our show interview, I did a lot of reading / talking with poly men and woman, and another big takeaway I had was that I actually think *women* are more likely to be wired truly poly then men are (in the same way you’re more likely to find bisexual women.) Of course there are honest poly men, but I think the bad actors (like the guy who didn’t tell me he was married and poly until several hours into our date) are more likely to be straight poly men.

Something else I’ve noticed about polyamory worth sharing: For the most part, I think polyamorous women have good intentions when entering into relationship dynamics. (Note: I think they’re a little bit more rejection-sensitive than monogamous women! probably because they hear “no” less in their communities, so it feels worse when it does happen!) I do not think they are likely to lie / hide details about their escapades from other people. However, I have noticed a trend where polyamorous men will straight-up lie to monogamous women about their sexuality (or lifestyle choices), sometimes not revealing the truth until months or years into the relationship. I suspect this is because polyamorous men are the strongest upholders of the body-count double standard. They *want* to date women who have not had many partners / who are more selective, maybe even more than monogamous men do. Otherwise, why would they all SO aggressively be trying to spend time with monogamous women? In five to ten years, I think you will see the majority of men who claim polyamory as their sexuality trying to start families with monogamous women.
Polyphobic Paige 🛼🤍@climatepaige

They are addicted to attention and the worst incantations of it involve totally obfuscating or otherwise hiding important details about their polyamorous exploits so that they can continue to absorb your emotional resources see: that time I went on a date with someone who didn’t tell me he was polyamorous and married with two kids until several hours in

@12PursueTruth This is like ADHD: a great many, though not a majority, of students benefit from controlled amphetamine usage as a performance enhancer. The medical profession acts as both a permission structure and a moderating force, making it less likely that use will result in addiction.

Autism: “The spectrum has become so accommodating that I fear that it has now been stretched so far that it has become meaningless and is no longer useful as a medical diagnosis.” Problem is that psychologists, and increasingly a flood of master’s level therapists have come to rely on the autism diagnosis to support their practice. Their livelihood. I suspect schools face a similar reliance on autism diagnoses for extra funding. Furthermore: Parents love it because their child gets extra services. Students love it because it makes them special. Drug companies love it because they profit from drugs. Psychologists are supposed to be the gatekeepers on diagnoses, but we are not doing very well at it.

Ball Watching: a St. Louis CITY SC Podcast
You don’t see a project through by talking about the end goal only. You keep people with you by showing steady, visible progress. That’s the tension for #AllForCITY right now: long-term vision is fine, but after two irrelevant seasons and no wins in three, we need evidence.

#AllForCITY Sporting Director Corey Wray was on KMOX this morning. While details on the project remain scarce, Wray and his staff want to get it right. Which means patience will be needed.

@ChatCityTactics Selling Klauss for allocation money and investing that back in a roster spot that will be useful for several years seems like a textbook example of making a decision that hurts now and pays off later. We’d be renewing more contracts, too, if we were in a ‘win now’ mentality.

All of this “project” talk by Wray continuously misses a key point: There is no incentive in MLS to lose. The SuperDraft is inconsequential. #AllForCITY did not have to get worse in order to get better. That was a choice, but not the only one. We could’ve just gotten better.

@KWBussard_ @micpewpew It is a game balance thing, though, at least in Baldur’s Gate and the video games some races get stat bonuses that would break certain classes if they had access to them. If Dwarven Defenders could be human and therefore dual class it would be very overpowered.

It's not that "normies" would have been shocked. It's just that it's placing unnecessary restrictions (depending on which edition you are playing by) on races that was otherwise allowed in the core rule-sets. Elf Druids / Rangers were allowed in 1e Dwarf paladins wasn't allowed in 1e but a multiclass mix (figher/cleric) was used to make one in 2e and was officially added in 3e, Halflings could be clerics in 2e, in addition to thief or fighter etc...
